Greek Peak Conditions

Its obvious the new owners do not have deep enough projects to replace the lifts,
I'm assuming you meant to say "pockets". We hear this a lot but I question how people feel they know this?
What I know is that the Meires don't take one cent out of the place. Any and all profits go back into the resort. Not sure someone who doesn't have deep pockets could afford to do that? I could be wrong. I also would question how many owners of a ski area don't take a paycheck out of the place.

Replace 5 with a fixed grip quad.
Replacing two with a fixed grip quad down to the base would take a lot of pressure off of 1 & 1a. If you walk out of the main lodge you have to take one of those lifts to get anywhere else on the mountain.
That would be sweet!

Chair 4 is the priority. There’s something wrong with it. You can feel it in the starts and stops. Chair 2 just needs to be properly maintained. If replaced, it should be with another double. That pod is perfect just the way it is. Cutting the footrests off 5 is a good idea to reduce weight
The footrests on 5 were ADDED just a couple of short years ago. Remember?

Folks, the current owner is a skier who has owned a house at the resort for a long time. He and his family are all skiing there and you likely have waited in line with them and not known it. They are well aware of the massive "infrastructure needs". Meier has adopted a strategy of financing replacement, repair, and renewal, of practically everything. But he's doing so as resources allow and avoiding debt. He's got a list of priorities. Snowmaking and lifts are #1. But he knows and is planning on avoiding a repeat of Greek's history of bankruptcy and near bankruptcies. He doesn't like debt. They took out some debt for the Visions quad when it was built because it was so desperately needed. Anyway, he was out with the rest of us clearing glades last fall and listened to employees talk about what's needed. And its a LOT. Even the brakes on the 4x4 we were using to get around needed replacement.

Which lift should be overhauled/ replaced? Its all of them but 3 and Visions. He knows it. The first priority was Alpha. We needed a beginner lift that had a variable speed motor, and we got one. Visions needs a loading carpet that won't break so it can go back to regular speed. A completely new one is coming next week. The rest? Its all on the list. And its a long list.

Yes, we were promised a new lift for 2 years prior to the BK. Previously GP had a reputation of over promising and under delivering. I like it better the way it is now. Let the improvements speak for themselves. If a person can't see what's being done there then they aren't paying attention. Every year the ski side is being improved.

I'll say this again, and again. It took 50 years to run the place into the ground so it will 100% take time to bring it back.

Agreed. I first skied Greek Peak in the late 70's and until the new owners took over about the only change I saw since then was removing the T-bar and replacing it with a used double lift. All the money was going across the road to the condos and water park. There's been more improvements to the ski area since the new owners took over than in the 40 years before that.

The pay-as-you-go approach is fine for many businesses, but Greek Peak is looking at a few million dollars for a basic lift. I'm not sure that the lifts have many more years of life left in them, as the lifespan of a chairlift is 15-25 years.

With respect to Camp's question about which lift to replace first, I haven't a clue, as I don't know which lift is in the worst condition. But, as I read through some of the posts, I do like the idea of one day relocating chair 2 back to where it was originally installed. This would give beginners a top-to-bottom access point to alleviate some of the congestion and starting/stopping of Visions. This would also allow beginners to access Karyatis from Zephyr. Greek Peak could redevelop the chair 2 area, as it serves every ability level. I would regrade Atlas from top-to-bottom. Finally, I would change the name of Aesop's Glades to Ronnie's Run.
