Gore Mountain Conditions

Need some advice....
I am 50 miles south, another night of rain here.
I had planned on skiing Gore Tuesday. Should I abandon that idea. No natural snow in the forecast, likely no snowmaking. I usually only ski trails off Bear Cub and Sunway and I imagine they will not have time to recover? Still plenty of Winter left so why force a 'bad idea' trip? Right?
Skied Friday at Gore, then spent Friday night (3:30 to 9) at West in the rain! I was not skiing just there to transport and support our grandson. Not a great night for me, made even worse when our 11 year old grandson decided to ski with a friend... and not check in with me frequently. Nearly missed his lesson! What 'tracker' phone apps to you recommend? SLOPES was recommended? Good call? Will I need the Premium Version?
Finally, the pictures of the new Lodge confused me. It looks more like a corporate lounge, maybe an airport lounge? Is there a totally separate area not shown in the pictures for booting up and equipment storage, etc? Attractive... but what is its intended use? Am I missing something?

Gondola is down right. Summit still not open, Sun is out and trees are sparkly though, things are softening up.

What I don't understand is why they went with a sit-down restaurant when what they really needed was another cafeteria, as the two that they have are absolutely slammed every weekend.

Not sure if this plan is still operative, but ORDA has previously said the restaurant is supposed to be year-round, and along with the zipcoaster will "transform the Ski Bowl into a year-round destination."

Reason to be skeptical it will succeed, but only way to make sense of the scale of investment at Ski Bowl is as a regional economic development thing, rather than strictly about improving the skier experience.

P.S. I did go inside the new lodge. It has the new building smell. Certainly much better than the double wide trailer...

Got that better than a double wide, new building smell to add to the ambiance.
Maybe the electric zippy coaster smell will bring back memories of ozone from toy trains.

I will agree that today was not great by any means. It really depended on what was groomed later, or the small handful of trails that softened up. Anything that was groomed early was just awful if not downright dangerous.

I messed up by sleeping through my alarm, waking up at 7:35. I was on the road by 7:50, pulled into the ski bowl at 8:47, and was on the Hudson Chair by 8:55. Not a bad turnaround.

I was meeting a friend who started at the main base, and he texted my saying the conditions were very icy and that he crashed on the bottom of Twister. I texted back saying to come to Burnt Ridge as it seemed the trails at the ski bowl were ok.

After cycling through all the ski bowl trails, it was a trip down the very icy Hedges and Tahawus and up the excruciatingly slow and stopping every 100 yards North Quad.

It turned out the only trails worth skiing on the front side were the variations of Sunway. Showcase and Twister looked to just be sheets of ice. Quicksilver was actually closed due to ice. This meant that Sunway was very crowded, but at least the conditions weren't terrible.

My friend had to leave around noon and we didn't have time to get to the summit, but we decided to try Topridge to see if it softened, and sure enough it sort of did.

After he left, I had a quick lunch, then decided to try the summit. Pine Knot had been closed due to ice, but Uncas was open, though it has not softened like Topridge did and was icy. On the summit itself, Chatiemac, Hawkeye, and Lies were all closed due to ice, but Open Pit and Headwaters weren't terrible. On High Peaks, Hullabaloo and Lower Darby were both closed, but Santanoni and Little Cloud were open, but very icy. Upper Steilhang was open and fully groomed, haven't seen that in many years, but good to see as it allows one to bypass the death turn on Cloud. Unfortunately it was very icy.

After the summit, I did a few more on the front side, then went to Burnt Ridge via Sleeping Bear and Pipeline. I decided to try Echo, which was surprisingly good, so I did 2 laps. Then it was back to the ski bowl where I squeezed in 2 laps on Hudson before it closed. Then I decided to make up for the late start and did a dozen laps on the Village Chair, finishing my final run at about 4:40.

41 lifts for 35,279 vertical

Thanks for posting. Question: how was moxham? Loved it as a natural snow trail and didn't get to it on our short trip. I laughed when you referred to the turn of death on Cloud. My wife mostly won't go to the summit because of that turn. I kind of forget where mini cloud is - is that what looks like a flat to the left at the nasty ice turn on Cloud that you referred to?

It’s fun when there’s snow and not crowded.
But...Sno knows.

A bunch of us all slid off Lower Steilhang on it’s corner years ago. Thankfully there was a lot of soft snow. We laughed once we climbed back out.
