Gore Mountain Conditions

He hangs out here sometimes when he might take a nap.
Report says tis open.

He told me to tell y’all, "Stay Outta There!, I’m trying to catch a few winks."
Rabbit Run was the second iteration of Tahawus Glade. From its current end on Hedges you had to hike uphill to the current Tahawus entrance. I skied it many times with my kids.
The original Tahawus Glade began from Twister trail with an uphill on a trail barely wide enough to herringbone which would later become the service road to Hedges and Burnt Ridge.

This guy filmed me skiing down Rumor a few years ago when he was re-recording it because he didn't like his original video. Nice dude. Ended up skiing a bunch of runs together.

As far as my report from today. Ok to meh early then quickly became a skiied off skating rink. Pretty busy as well. ROTD was actually Backwoods believe it or not which had great snow. Topridge early in the morning was second. Everything else was pretty much the same. Ok to meh granular early followed by boilerplate interrupted by snow piles. Not complaining as it's what I expected and had it been less crowded would have skiied better longer. Back at it tomorrow and hoping the crowd is less given then end of the holidays which will help.

Agree Topridge was good early - also open pit and Chatiemac. I skied front side first hitting Twister, Showcase, Quicksilver before going up top. It was all pretty good - I avoided Hawkeye as it looked and sounded like it needed another day - but at 11 I headed to Backwoods and Bowl, then a couple runs off North Quad and done. It was clearly going to get scraped off - more crowded than New Years Eve. I was also reminded how fewer people know how to handle fixed grip chairs - every one I was on stopped at least three times every time I was on it. Except, ironically, the North Quad where I would expect more beginners. I joined three teens on Straightbrook and two didn’t seem to know how to sit and were left behind after the chair stopped for around a minute.

Gore base

12 degrees, no wind

Website said 19 at the base and 8 at the summit. It felt cold to us.

Skiing with Neve, psyched.

As part of my diabolical plan to get her to visit us, I told her at Christmas, that if she'd keep her gear here, I'd buy her her first pair of boots, binding and skis. She's 19 now, done growing and ready to leave rentals behind.

She drove up yesterday and met me at Sports Page. Mike fitted her boots, and we let her pick out skis. She really noticed the difference in comfort, even walking around.

Upper Sleighride

She wanted to hit the park, to get some air.

She also wanted Rumor and Lies, and didn't accept my assertion that the amount of open terrain was actual pretty good for early January. @snoloco would have been proud!

Still she loves "lower Double Barrel" and couldn't believe it was open.

Maybe I'm old now, but I now (generally) believe things are closed for a reason.

As has been the case much of the season, North Side and Showcase were grip and rip.

Was better out there today IMO than yesterday. Lapped the lower mountain to start and everything skiied pretty well. Did a couple Topridge laps next and it was very nice before heading down to the bowl. Backwoods was great again today. Moxham was ok. Echo opened as we were looking to go up top via Hedges and it was most excellent. Warranted a re run and definitely the ROTD. Finished with laps on Chati, Hawkeye, and Open Pit/Cloud Out/Showcase. Even at 1:30 when I left Showcase was still decent.

Much less crowded today and it showed in the conditions. After the minor refresh tomorrow afternoon and with the lack of crowds this week I bet groomer skiing will be most excellent. Id get after it if you can before this next warmup late in the week. I sadly will be working

If there is ever a HOF for ski shops... Sports Page should be one of the first chosen. Their rental program for growing kids has put generations of kids into decent equipment families could afford. Always a fun experience trying to balance the enthusiasm of " I want ...." with the reality of "these would fit you perfectly...." . At age 75 I am now putting a third generation into Sports Page Rentals!

Wow, the mention of Sports Page really cleared my brain fog. Maybe some locals will remember.....
Sports Page, Inside Edge and racing gates, Fall Line ski shop, Morans & of course the Tent Sale!, Mike Brandt / West Mtn, Night skiing at West and Willard, Night Nordic Skiing at Crandall Park, CB Vaughn & CB Sports ! (still have some gear), Champion Outlet, heel wedges, Mike Jones/ Jones Camera, original Pico, Hidden Valley, and one of my favorites... the Mobil 3 fill up's reduced price Ski Ticket!

I just realized this dude skied with us at Platty a couple of weeks back.

Runs an edible company on the side of his ski movie job 🤣. Gave me a sample in exchange for the tour 😏. Good guy for sure.
