Gore Mountain Conditions

Run count for today was:

6 Hudson
6 Burnt Ridge
6 Topridge
3 Straightbrook
3 North
3 Adirondack Express
2 Gondola
1 High Peaks

30 lifts for 33543 vertical.

Definitely was one of those days when the parking lots and base area looked very crowded, but most of the mountain was not. The terrain off of the ski bowl and Topridge stood out the most. There were also some glades open on the Ski Bowl (JJ's), and Burnt Ridge (Barkeater, Abenaki, and Tahawus), which I made sure to ski. The only thing I found disappointing was the poor conditions and lack of snowmaking on the summit. I hope whatever issue there is can be fixed quicky.
@snoloco is Gore your home this season?

skiing at Gore has been compromised last year and maybe this year because of neglected facilities, so here we are.
I wouldn't call having all lifts open on December 27th on all snowmaking to be "compromised", but there is definitely a significant issue with the snowmaking on the summit, that I have found the source of.

That being said, the leak should be able to be fixed within this season. Really, the repair should take no more than 24 hours. The main pumphouse is near the reservoir, and pumps up one large diameter feed line to a valvehouse just above the North Quad unload. The line follows Pipeline and is above ground, but then disappears. It is most likely underground on Powder Pass, given that is where the water was visible, and it wasn't traceable to a particular source on the surface. The repair would consist of digging up the trail to locate the leak, then welding on a patch, pressure testing, and backfilling when it is confirmed that it is fixed. Now that there is snowmaking on the trail, they would be able to make snow on top of it and you wouldn't even know it was dug up in the first place. Killington has done multiple of these repairs all within 24 hours, though they don't have to do this anymore, as they replaced the pipe in all the problem spots.

Sno, we could use ya now to help with leaks in the Onondaga County Water Authority system if ya ain’t too busy. It’s near the wetlands outside The Cuse not on a mountain in a park.

Sno! When my crew comes up, should we avoid summit and focus on burnt ridge, ski bowl, topridge area? Mixed group but 'bottom' folks very confident on gore blues.

How the heck did you get this intel?

Maybe they just don’t want the dang boarders 🏂 to sit on big rock and/or are using it as a warning so folks don’t slide into it.

My son might have been on Hawkeye and lower double barrel (that’s what I call under the chair below Hawkeye - does it have a name?) yesterday. Sounds like it might have been the poach of the day with a lot of others doing the same. He and his buddy had big smiles and tales to tell.

I will join them today, but I stick to the open runs - disappointed headwaters isn’t open yet - seems like team snowmaking is ahead of team push & groom.

They had barely even started making snow on Headwaters. And yes, there was A LOT of poaching going on. Tells me that patrol maybe should've evaluated more trails for potential rope drops. But they didn't on the summit. However, glades were open at Burnt Ridge and the Ski Bowl.
