Gore Mountain Conditions

Given how the snowmaking system works, the ski bowl is largely independent of the main mountain. So it makes sense to make snow there when they can, and not take away any capacity from other trails.
They have the infrastructure to make snow at the ski bowl and the main mountain at the same time but do they have the manpower?
That seem to be the problem last year IIRC.

The layout at belle makes it easier to blow new terrain quickly.

I'm not saying they aren't doing a good job at Belle. but at Belle you can blow on one black trail and get one black trail.Open at gore you've got to blow like three traverses to do that.
Those are the reasons that they should make more snow than Belleayre at Gore but apparently they make less.
At least this year is better than last year.

Old, whimpy skier question....
I have never skied at Ski Bowl
How would the Village Slopes compare:
To Lower Sunway off Bear Cub Quad at Gore
To Otter, Moose, or Bobcat at Whiteface?
I ask because weekdays Bear Cub Quad is often not spinning.
but sometimes Village Slopes lift at Ski Bowl is...
I dislike the extra hour drive to Whiteface...
BUT there Falcon Flyer lift is nearly always running in Bear Den area !
And on occasion I will even brave The Notch lift.
Love the separateness of Bear Den area with its own lodge!
Maybe Village Slopes at Ski Bowl will feel the same???

It feels like a shorter run, and it may be slightly steeper. But it is definitely way easier than the portion of Sunway between 3B and Pete's Paradise.

Since I live 1,000 miles away and only get to ski a couple of days a year at each, I decided to do a bit of research.

Open Ski Map says the following:

Village Slopes has a 141 ft vertical on a 0.19 mile horizontal (average slope 14%).

Lower Sunway has a 167 ft vertical from the top of Bear Cub and appears to have a distance of ~0.38 miles with an average slope of approximately 8%.

To Otter, Moose, or Bobcat at Whiteface?
I would tell a novice skier that they have a similar level of difficulty. Open Ski Map says:

Otter has a 243 ft vertical and 0.32 mile horizontal (average slope 14%).

Moose has an average slope of 11%.

Maybe Village Slopes at Ski Bowl will feel the same???
Those on this forum who get more than a couple of days a year at Gore and Whiteface can chime in if they disagree with that assessment. But I would check out the ski bown when the Village Slopes chair is running if I were you!

Just remember it is definitely a smaller scale beginner skiing operation than Bear Den Lodge, with much less to do.

And if you wanted something more, it may be worth checking out the green Peaceful Valley trail off the Hudson Chair. Like Sunway, it has some flat mixed in with a few sections of more challenging green terrain (a similar challenge to the bit of Sunway just before Pete's, but maybe narrower). But depending on how you feel about that part of Sunway, I think it might be worth considering. The nice thing is that it is a lot less busy than Sunway, and if you are able to ski it, it is a very rewarding part of the mountain.

Thank you.
I agree there are some sections of Sunway where I have second thoughts, especially when they re route me down Otter Slide as though it was a mild green trail. Last year it appeared to me Gore made an attempt to re-route a lot of the better skiers away from that section of Lower Sunway below where Bear Cub Quad lift empties. Quicksilver, Pete's Paradise were the better option for better skiers. Also last year those coming off the Bear Cub Quad lift could only go down the chute to the left as you got off the lift. No more going right off the lift into that curve on Lower Sunway which always got jammed up with true learners, lesson groups, and boarders booting in. Not what a better skier wanted to see as they finished a full Sunway run.

I'm giving Gore the credit for those automatic machines that allow you to buy stuff before the station is manned.

Now i'm gonna ask for a little more. Give me like a cliff bar or something with some nutritional value that I can buy not just cheetos. Cheetos don't extend my ski day.

Gore base

At least six fan guns going here at the base.

Foxlair

New terrain still crunchy.

Wow-- Gore is looking beautiful! Would love to go soon. I asked the wife if she wanted to go. She said No after I told her our IKON passes don't work there :ROFLMAO:

As a Dad who taught two young skiers to ski on Village Slope, I would say the only tricky spot is the initial "drop". It is short, but relatively steep compared to everything else.

There was a way to avoid it (taking a left off of the chair around the lift cabin) that was a much more gradual and fun little "chute" connecting to the rest of the trail. Unfortunately, it was commandeered by the Nordic Course 🤮 and never to be used by downhill children/beginners again. Dumb move IMO, but Gore is full of dumb moves so no surprise there.
