Gore Mountain Conditions

Today's full report

8:10ish-Noon: Started on Hudson chair with 4-5 down and dumping. They loaded hella early at 8:10ish. First run down 46er awesome with probably 4 on top of the groom with soft underneath. Ski Bowl Glades next. Soft on soft. JJs to Moxham same. Met up with a friend then repeated Ski Bowl Glades again before heading to BR. Rest of the morning was spent lapping Boreas, Cirque, Abenaki, and Barkeater which were all excellent. Did go on a little excursion on Cirque and made our own trail but was fun. Finished up on Echo which was nice soft chopped up snow to the Gondi to head up top. Switched over to sleet around 10 after another inch or two fell, then freezing rain around 11:30. Snow still powdery at this point.

Noon-1:40:
Took Gondi up into a persistent freezing rain and did Cave Glades which were starting to crust in spots not covered by the trees but still overall great snow. Chati next to Chati glades which was very crusty throughout and especially at the bottom of chati glades was getting very difficult to break through the crust. Heard the Gondi had just closed due to icing. Since parked at the bowl I figured the remaining detachable may be next so headed for the Bowl. McIntyre glades were ok but crusting up. Cloud very crusty. Did rabbit run to Tahawus glades and they were very crusty up top and a little less at the bottom. Traverse to the ski bowl and down lower Moxham was getting very crusty when I got to my car at 1:40.

Though I was an icicle when I finished was a great morning. Afternoon was just meh. Would have loved to get another hour or two in but you take what the mountain gives. Sadly the woods are going to be out if not very tricky until some human grooming happens or we get a bunch of snow on top. Mountain got a lot of ice today. Anything that's groomed should continue to ski well though.

Going to try for tomorrow but I suspect between the icing and crazy winds not much is going to open. Hopefully I'm wrong as I'd like to ski tomorrow before heading home.

A day of mixed results operationally, but I got extremely lucky and ended up having a great day.

Started on the gondola which opened at 8:20. Noticed that the upper lifts weren't even close to opening. Took the AE2 up for my second run, noticed Burnt Ridge was open, and headed over there. Did everything except Backwoods and Cirque Glades, and everything was extremely good, so I stayed there until just before lunch, when I took the AE2 up to the Saddle. After lunch, did a lap on Showcase, then back to Burnt Ridge.

It was at this point that I decided to try Cirque Glades, and because I hadn't skied it in years, I thought I got lost and off the main route. Since I had to find the route again, it took longer than expected to get down. Once I got to the lift, the lifties were rushing me to get on, saying they were closing it due to ice. At this point, I intended to take the North Quad, which had reopened after being closed due to a mechanical issue all morning, and head to the summit from there. But when I got to the top, the rope was up on Hedges. I asked a patroller if the North Quad was open, and he said that they just radioed in that it was, so he dropped the rope, and I went down there via Tahawus Glades. I checked the report and noticed that all 4 detachables were down, so it was a private upper mountain from about 1 until closing. Had I not gotten lost in the glades, the North Quad would not have been open by the time I reached the top, or worse yet, I might have decided to go to the ski bowl and gotten stranded there, and good luck getting a shuttle back when the roads were as bad as they were. I totally lucked out here.

Conditions remained very good all day, even with the changing precip types. It was back to snow around 2:30 and was still coming down hard after closing.

They definitely picked up a few inches this afternoon and evening when it went back to snow

Holy crap! what have you guys done with the place?

I leave for a day and it looks like more than a foot, not a crust in sight?!

Nice work!
