Gore Mountain Conditions

Aside from the sad accident, Conditions were great today. Rumor opened and in usual opening day fashion was nice chalky manmade and the clear ROTD. Made many laps. Also great (though no bad runs to be found) were Double Barrel, Upper Darby to Darby Woods, McIntyre and the Dark Side Glades, Mineshaft Glades, Topridge, lower mountain early. Even got a few post 3 PM laps in the Chatterbox Glades which were skiied in but skiing very well. Had planned to venture down to BR at some point but when I heard it was closed as I was about to just sticked to the upper mountain.

It was definitely busy. Cars parked most of the way down the access road and lines even for singles on Straightbrook with the every other chair loading. High peaks and Topridge had little if any waits.

Sad day given the accident but a great day as far as skiing and weather went as it stayed sunny and comfortable right up to 3. Given the new snow tomorrow I focused on trail skiing today but tomorrow it's full game on for the woods and looking forward to some early laps at the bowl. I sure hope Ski Bowl Glades are open and if not may be time to go a poachin'.

I am so sad to hear about the loss of life today. Sending peace and condolences to his loved ones.

The mountain skied so well. The February conditions are an absolute testament to what the Gore system is capable of. I saw some snowmakers walking on Sunway and I stopped to thank them. Now that we know, there is no excuse for the conditions we experienced in the early part of the season to happen again. Long live Bruce and his awesome crew!

WF has 10 guys here helping out, as the Belle guys headed out. Much appreciation for the cooperation!!

Sadly it was a fatality. We were at Burnt shortly after the incident, we were on the lift heading up and there was a lot of ski patrol on Sagamore below us standing around a large tarp. I was told it wasn't a collision or a tree, they fell and when patrol got to them the person was unresponsive. Very tragic.
