Going Under the Knife

Hope @Warp daddy and @Campgottagopee are healing up well!

Today I celebrate 10 years, 484 ski days, 12,994 bike miles and a whole lotta hippy shakin' on the THR!

Thanks Gorgo I continue to feel fine but the rate of reduction of the critical benchmark has slowed up . It's been reduced 70% which is considered partial remission.full remission is 90 to 100%

SO they have extended treatment I'm in my 6th round now probably go 9 total . Each round is 3 Weeks a month times a month with chemo one day and 3 immunity shots each of the 3 weeks then the 4th week you get a rest .

Chemo treatment is 4 hrs the first week then 50 minutes weeks 2&3 ,,the shot days are 10 minutes max

I feel fine will be going back to UVM mid May strictly for office visit they and my doctor here will outline what's next ( stay the same chemo recipe or change it or come up with a complete new approach. It's all data driven based on weekly labs )

It's been 9 months of this but I'm handling it .luckily the cancer center is a mile away and the staff are all friends and spoil the hell outta me 😉

Heading back to UVM Wednesday for office visit and hopefully finding out exact scenario for treatment for next several rounds

Gonna take a few days RnR and tool around Vt Need a break. Toughest part of this cancer journey has been the need to Isolate and not be inside in public places like restaurants or large gatherings.

Just this week had to decline a luncheon with our endowed scholarship recipient at annual scholarship luncheon at my former college, also had to miss a funeral gathering for my wife's cousin.. this isolation really gets to me as I'm a people person

Outside is fine and thank God for the golf course and shooting the chit with the guys on the deck there

Oh well, sigh it could be worse at least I feel pretty good

Congratulations. I have one of these in my future. Either this summer or I might put it off until next April. May I ask, how long after surgery before you could ski? (at all, and aggressively?)
April is good if you can make it another season, that’s when I had mine, back on the bike by Father’s Day, skiing that December. Any limitations will mostly be in your head. I did an Alta trip with a few families the following spring, ski’d with “the boys “ in the morning then split off after lunch just from lack of confidence in the new parts. Ended up skiing a lot of stupid shit anyway with a rad lady after we lost “the girls”! If your’re suffering though do it sooner than later, recovery is pretty mild compared to knees or shoulders, walk, walk, walk!

Your attitude is awesome, coach. Enjoy the VT tour!
Will you soon be able to go to indoor gatherings?
Unfortunately no ,what happens Camp ( and it's quite common) Everytime you do chemo (3 times a month ) it attacks your White Blood cells (WBC) too .

Yeah it gets rid of bad stuff (IgM / meaning it lowers the blood viscosity) but also tanks the WBC so your immunity is severely lowered so ya gots to mask up and avoid indoor congested events or places

Once IF I get to Remission ( meaning 90- 100 % reduction of IgM ) then I go off chemo and THEN the WBCs which fight infection get to recover .

It's complex: like managing chaos ,ya gotta stay mentally flexible and not this get ya down .the data changes up every week and what ur looking for is maintaining the Rate of reduction of IgM .

That's what happened to me last couple of months ...the rate of reduction slowed down ......so more chemo cycles r necessary.

The question now is how many cycles ( each is a month with 3 treatments) AND will the chemo formula or recipe change .

It's complicated🤔just gotta 💪💪🙏
