Going Under the Knife

Soooooo

Long story short. I got the results of my MRI and I'm told I have severe spinal stenosis. I meet with my surgeon on Feb 20th. My question is has anyone had this issue, how was the surgery, and how was the recovery time.

So yes, another season, 2nd in a row, where I can't ski due to injury. Thankfully my pass will be rolled to next year --- fingers crossed.

Gettin old sucks --- LoL

ugh, bummer. Not sure if you ever bump into @powderqueen but I know she had back surgery a few seasons ago and is still gettin' after it

Yep, been down that road for the past year and it's not helping. Part of it is hereditary, part of it is an old injury, part of it is arteritis, and the other part is plain old abuse of my back. I'm told there's a tube that your spinal cord runs through and mine has 2 spots that are extremely narrow which is pinching in on my spinal cord. Guess they go in and hollow it out. My father had something similar done on his neck. He had it done when he was 80 and he's never quite fulling recovered from it. It's time do do something because even the simplest of tasks will sometimes be very painful and I'm a big sissy when it comes to pain!

My friend's wife had the surgery in early November and she expects to ski this month. They explored other treatment options putting it off for a few years, but she was frequently in a lot of pain and taking a lot of pain meds so wanted it done.

Surgery went great. Installed plates and screws etc. X-rays look like something in Frankenstein 🤣 First few days were rough but things improved rapidly. I don't recall the exact timeline but within a ~week she was out taking easy walks. Obviously everyone has different physical characteristics and the surgeon and hospital matter. Do your homework.

Good luck.

Have ya tried physical therapy, yoga, tai chi etc?
It could help even if ya decide on surgery.
Good luck Camp.
Stay safe sledding up north.

Dang, Camp. Best wishes for a successful outcome. Getting old isn't for the faint of heart.

Campy hang in there , I empathize back pain sux big time . I've had lumbar issues for years being an old jock and forging ahead with sports all my life. I'm lucky so far with back pain , stretching helps as does my shiatsu message chair but all that said I agree with others here
