Going Down Big

Great Trango Tower, it doesn’t get much bigger than this.

"one of the biggest accomplishments in recent ski mountaineering history."

If ever there was a DFU line, that's it.

New Kopeshow.

Music on this one is a bit rough for me but the line is big. Check out the Maquiseries YouTube page for many more monster lines. This is what I'd call extreme skiing.

Ropes? We don’t need no stinkin ropes!
You know it’s steep when the windshield wipers are on.

I was hoping you’d enter the chat. I bet you’ve been on some steep terrain like that in Big Sky where there really isn’t much snow between your edges and rocks. The thing about the Rockies is that sometimes that “snow” is all rotted out junk. Man, I hated getting getting on the rot on rock, especially when boot packing over exposure. That can be very butt puckering.

Big Sky is a big pile of loose shark teeth. There’s some committing lines especially around the Upper Pinnacles that rot in the sun. They look skiable from below but then you billy goat in and everything slides away and now you’re down climbing bare crumbly rock with skis on to something skiable with exposure over cliffs. It can get rowdy but most of it is mini golf.

Cham is a whole different story. I checked out some of that Maquiseries and I was having some serious flashbacks. Glad I made it out of there. Very happy these days making three or four squiggles in the old pasture on my XCDs. Once in a while I get crazy and just point it.

I’m feeling the same. I’m glad I had the experiences I did but I’m super stoked to be chilling now. I really don’t want to be injured ever again.

The thought of being a young skier in Chamonix scares the crap out of me. That kind of skiing was never my sort of thing.
