Fish Tales

I think it has been a long long time since there was a healthy population on the east coast but there used to be.
There’s “landlocked” salmon and “King” salmon in the UpState.
King’s were somewhat recently imported to eat the alewives in th Big O and some of the other Great Lakes.
There’s a healthy natural reproduction of King’s in Lake Ontario now.
When folks put the Erie Canal in the demise of the natural Atlantic salmon began.
It took away their paths to spawn in the gravel of the Finger Lakes and other areas.

Folks called Fish Creek Fish Creek for a reason.

The east wind should bring cold temps for Big O water at the mouth of the Salmon River and trigger a run of salmons.
Ya can watch the show live here.
The rain brought some more in.
There’s some floaters who didn’t make the gauntlet.

I fished here about 30 yrs ago
Like shooting fish in a barrel
This guy sums it up.
The cohos taste better than the skanked king salmon.
The Oswego River below the dam can be entertaining too, if ya like seein animals shot in a zoo. I’ve been pushing for a fish ladder there.
The salmon used to run up to the finger lakes to spawn before the Erie Canal went in.
