Fall Weather 2021

It's funny when Utah is getting skunked. They are such wimps about it, like somehow snow is a god given right.

Here is the east, widespread great conditions are more the exception, and we deal with it, mostly.
Joseph Smith chose Utah for the powder duh, members of LDS have a god given right to multiple wives and multiple feet of snow.

Was it bad when lead was added to gasoline to boost octane?
How about bombing our clouds with silver?
"When the silver run out the thrivin run out."

I guess if the water table in the East was being depleted like it is in the west, I would be concerned, too.

That's certainly a legit concern. Much of the west is a desert, and an extended drought isn't an unexpected surprise.

I was thinking about skiers and their skiing. Looks like we are in for a crappy December, and I sense more acceptance of it.

Sorry kids, been looking at natural snow and temps since 1970 and hate to say it but temps are rising and snow [in the East]is diminishing, this tracks almost exactly what the original and subsequent models about human induced global warming predicted. Seems quite doubtful that this is coincidence. Of course wrecking the ski industry is just a small part of the consequences of burning fossil fuels, but I still take that aspect personally. You can blame my generation, but it's up to yours to stop this.
I have looked extensively at the data and have come to similar conclusions for my home town. I specifically focused on Rochester NY where I've lived for all my life. I looked at what I call the winter months (Dec, Jan, Feb). Analyzing snow pack, average daily highs, average lows, the number of days exceeding 50 degrees going back to ~1960.

The number of 50+ degree days in the winter has increased significantly especially in the last decade.

Anyone that is interested in doing a similar analysis for a given location can find it at the NWS Now Data https://www.weather.gov/wrh/climate Just copy and paste into a spreadsheet and analyze to your hearts content.

I'd certainly be interested in seeing similar analysis for other locations especially if it shows colder and more snow.

The monthly summarized data is a particularly powerful way to gather data

I've kneeled to the ski gods finally, my first turns will be in the rain on Saturday.

My horse does not yet have a full winter coat. He's not ready for full on winter.

(Horses have a summer coat of hair, and a winter coat of hair. They shed each coat as the new one is growing in. A good winter coat is thick and toasty. They can fluff up the hairs for insulation.)

Looks like the place to be. If I didn't have a job and had a private jet I'd be there :)

That’s just the half of it. They will keep on coming
You don’t want to be there for that
