I have a friend who was a full time instructor and ski school manager in Telluride. He had a subsidized house on the mountain. About 10 years ago he told me he was getting “big money.” When I asked he told me 30K. Apparently resort employee money is different from city money.

That sounds about right to me. Even pro skiers don’t make that much money. Whenever a pro goes on the Powell movement podcast, he asks what their best year amounted to. Some of the numbers are pretty low. Anybody that breaks six figures gets a verbal high five- like that’s Michael Jordan money for the ski industry

I have seen bartenders take home $3k-$5k per night in places like this, with the servers well above $1k/night on the good days. The assistant server who did the bread would walk with at least $500.

Take a zero off, and it's way more accurate. I mean, someone might tip $3k the day they get their bonus from Goldman Sachs, but that's it.

Yeah but do you know how much cocaine is in mountain towns?

I call bullshit on this. I bartended a bunch in Big Sky, MT and Jupiter Florida, two of the wealthiest places in the country. The best nights I had were never much more than $1,000 and those were blue moons. When it all evened out I could consistently make more at my hometown dive bar in NY.
True. We did $500 a night at Front St in Newburgh back in the day, as a barback. Bartenders could hit $1k/ Night there. This was only on good nights.
