East Coast Ski Trip Outside of NY

I ski now but was in UT when I snowboarded and remember that Deer Valley did not allow snowboarders. Is that still the case? I ended up riding at the Canyons. Great mountain but it was 2002 (the year the olympics were in Salt Lake City) and it happened to be a in a bit of a snow drought when I was there.
One of the fears of DV pass holders when Alterra bought the resort was that the "no boards" rule would change. It didn't and there is little pressure to change.

The situation at Alta is a completely different story. Don't see the rule changing there either but for very different reasons than DV.

For me, not having boarders at Alta is a plus. The comparison is specifically for the difference in vibe between Alta and neighboring Snowbird. The source of differences is more than just skiers-only, but it's a part of it.

Taos tried to stay for skiers only but with decreasing visits changed the rules in 2008. However, there aren't many boarders good enough to ski the terrain with the big bumps so most of the boarders are members of families who ski groomers more than trees or bump terrain. So the bumps are shaped by skiers, not boarders. I haven't noticed people carrying a board on the hike to the Ridge.

I have nothing against snowboarders and I think if I lived out west I would ride one. I used to make a crude version back in the 70s. I started skiing around 74 and never looked back. Oh and Chip on his Alpine Board is fun to watch at Gore. Pure Carve. I would not have a problem with MRG allowing boarders but the only person that has said anything that can do anything about it is RivercOil, that is where change starts. I drag my cousins on boards around Gore and have been known to throw a pole to a boarder having issues on our flats. Back to the thread...I still want to get up to Saddleback. My previous bucket list East Coast Mt included Wildcat and I got it in a 30 inch storm. IF it wasn't so crowded I would have called it Epic but some locals took us around and we avoided the crowds. Smuggs and Saddleback are the NE mountains on my list that I really want to ski

This thread is really informative.

I was more surprised that as someone who doesn't like covid threads you'd bring up something regarding covid.
I have a few friends and coworkers who aren't vaxed, I don't shun them. What's frustrating is we're all supposed to be following CDC guidelines, part of that is unvaxed are to wear masks when in public places. It's an honor system. These same friends of mine don't do that yet they consider themselves honorable.

The building of the Mayflower resort might change the no boarder rule at DV.

It was for comparison purposes. Partly tongue in cheek.

I forget it's not possible to even mention anything related to COVID without getting folks agitated (not saying you are).

My bad.

How’d ya figure?
It says:
The Village will include ski infrastructure with several new ski lifts allowing skiers and mountain bikers access to extensive terrain, both summer and winter, while overlooking the Jordanelle Reservoir.
Emphasis added.

Mayflower owns the base area land of the Sultan and Mayflower lifts on Bald Mtn and some other lower trails and leases it to DV. There is some agreement for Mayflower guests to use DV. It is not clear what that means for snowboarders. Maybe snowboarders would be able to use the Mayflower resort lifts to only access the Sultan/Mayflower lifts at the top of DV.
