One of the fears of DV pass holders when Alterra bought the resort was that the "no boards" rule would change. It didn't and there is little pressure to change.I ski now but was in UT when I snowboarded and remember that Deer Valley did not allow snowboarders. Is that still the case? I ended up riding at the Canyons. Great mountain but it was 2002 (the year the olympics were in Salt Lake City) and it happened to be a in a bit of a snow drought when I was there.
The situation at Alta is a completely different story. Don't see the rule changing there either but for very different reasons than DV.
For me, not having boarders at Alta is a plus. The comparison is specifically for the difference in vibe between Alta and neighboring Snowbird. The source of differences is more than just skiers-only, but it's a part of it.
Taos tried to stay for skiers only but with decreasing visits changed the rules in 2008. However, there aren't many boarders good enough to ski the terrain with the big bumps so most of the boarders are members of families who ski groomers more than trees or bump terrain. So the bumps are shaped by skiers, not boarders. I haven't noticed people carrying a board on the hike to the Ridge.
