Driving in NY

This might rub some people the wrong way but it's not meant to. I would like to offer up some suggestions that would make driving on NY highways more enjoyable. List

* Drive in the right lane and only move into the left lane to pass.

* You don't need to come to a full stop at EZ Pass tolls. You are allowed to drive through at @ 20 MPH.

* There is no need to slow to a crawl when a police officer has a car pulled over on the shoulder. If possible move into left lane but slowing to 45MPH creates more danger than passing at 60 MPH.

* When in traffic cruise at a speed that will keep you from having to hit the brakes often to only speed up to hit them again.

There is a huge difference between driving on the highways of NJ and the highways of NY. My father was/is a truck driver and drilled into me the importance of being alert and aware of all that is going on around you.

I would like to add this....
When aproaching a hill or an increase in grade..STEP ON THE FREAK'N GAS...

All good suggestions but I believe that NJ highways (and especially the GS parkway) can be just as frustrating as the Thruway. If everyone learned how their cruise control worked and used it, that would help too.

This is the biggest one for me. I flash my headlights at people doing this before I'll pass them on the right. Most move over but not all. A lot of times the ones that move over get right back in the left lane once I pass them.

Looks like the NY Thuway is going to go cashless with express tolling. I notice new overhead express sensors over the highway south of Albany last week.

I had a nondescript silver 91 caprice for awhile back when every cop car on the road was either a caprice or a crown Vic. It was a great car but by far the best part of owning it was the way people got out of my way as I came up behind them in the left lane. It was like the parting of the Red Sea at times.

+1 on GSP, but cruise control is part of the problem. There's nothing more fun on the Thruway than following 2 guys side by side with their cruise both set on 66.
