Detachable vs Fixed Grip Lifts

Compared to the lift systems in Europe , the US uses rope tows.
There are a few exceptions, most notably, Big Sky’s lift system which now includes the new tram is state of the art. The gondola, which is next, will complete the package and be operational for years to come.

Stu wrote a recent piece about it and interviewed folks.
The most interesting part to me was the Swiss dude who was in charge of putting the pieces together to the top of Lone.
Stu asked em where ya gonna ski? (cause he’s takin 3 months off after the christening)
Little place 20 min away from home with a T-Bar and good skiers. (y)

Ya can’t even ski using the new tram now, similar to the shiny new Barker 6 in Sunday River. It’s now supposed to open back on 23DEC23.

Yeah, the 1950s. ;)
That's a good one and even though I know you're joking they do make sense to me for small mom and pop places that don't have the visitation numbers of a larger ski area. I'd think they cost a lot less to maintain and insure.

I like T-bars and Poma lifts but rope tows? Not so much, I really like my leather gloves.

See where ya get tellin the dang boarders 🏂 at Hyland Hills that.
The twin rope tows are packed with them after skool nowadays.
Looks like good clean fun too.

There's times & places for em.

Ya shouldn’t wear out yer gloves if ya get goin coming in hot like they do.
With yer bike/ski experience ya could be a dang contender.

for north america yes...but the lift system in Zermatt makes Big sky's seem antiquated...I rode gondolas and chairs that start under ground...They have a subway and train system that takes inside the mountain...all for less then a 100$ a day...

Yeah, Switzerland is extremely wealthy and even the poor people aren't really poor.

They don't have the US military tho!

The local rag did a writeup on the new tram.
