Dark Side Liftline Photos

Power lines provide power for the public so they can live, go to work etc.

Ski areas are for recreation and generally for people with fairly high incomes.

it’s not very hard to understand.
I know how power lines are sited. My point is that if had you applied the power line rules to HP, there is no possibility that DS would have been regraded, and maybe none of the destruction would have happened at all. Not a single tree would have been removed without informing the public.

If a lift project like that were on Forest Service land, the cost of approvals for the exgtended and widened right of way would have dwarfed whatever the new HP cost. The choice would have been between an exact replacement with a more efficient motor, or a detachable 6 pack to justify the cost of the environmental review. ORDA should have the same respect for the skiing environment.

How much below?
I never measured it and I don't have a topo map. Still, I only need 2 or 3 skate steps (on a good day) and there's a drop at the end, so regrading should be possible. I wouldn't like but it would be easier to drag 6 year olds through there.

I finally rode the HP chair today and was shocked by the carnage from this vantage point even though I had hiked this area many times this summer and fall. The cleanup will be a tremendous job if it is ever attempted. The darkside has shrunk by about a 1/3 and will never be the same.

You can be disappointed with the damage to the Dark Side Glades, but complaining about the lift being extended is just dumb. The old lift ended in a shitty spot and the let off was poorly designed. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to shorten it. The new lift now ends back at the original point, where it was always supposed to go.

Of course its not as awesome as castle rock. But Dark Side fits in in this SAT question:

"Castle Rock is to Sugarbush as __________ is to Gore."
Love that!

Does anyone know? Doesn't really matter to me but
SAT questions are multiple guess as it makes em easier to answer and grade. Go figure?

I should think we're lucky to have such "issues" to complain about. If Gore/WF weren't propped up by tax payer dollars I wonder what upgrades, if any, we'd be seeing. My guess is it would be lack of upgrades that would be the topic of discussion.
