Dark Side Liftline Photos

When I think of the the dark side at Gore it wasn't just the lifeline but the woods between the liftline and Hullabaloo and the woods between Lower Steilhang and the liftline. I haven't been up the lift yet but I assume those parts of the dark side are still intact.
Both of these woods appear to have been narrowed with the widening of the lift line. The Hullabaloo side in particular only appears to be a few trees wide now.

Non retorical questions,

1) Why couldn't the old towers be retrofitted for a new lift, even if only a double? ( New chairs, rope, tower wheels, engine, etc

2). If we had to put in new towers, how were they able to do it 55 years ago without such wanton destruction, but to do it today they had to dynamite the whole place?

I agree with JT. Of course its not as awesome as castle rock. But Dark Side fits in in this SAT question:

"Castle Rock is to Sugarbush as __________ is to Gore."

Does anyone know if it is possible to regrade Wood In enough to prevent skating? Doesn't really matter to me but I'm sure it matters to others.

Wood In as an alternate route to the top is a good idea. On quiet days it would be better to shut down the gondola than to shut down AE2 and HP as they often did last year.

Regrading Wood In is not in the UMP.

While Gore has some great glades there were really only a handful of terrain areas that, for me, defined the mountain. Now one of them is defiled.
Cloud above Lies with views of the High Peaks was another area that defined Gore. Those views are now obscured, and the quiet area is now a busy groomer.

No matter what lift was built there, the trail would've gotten all torn up. You don't build a brand new lift on the same profile as a 54 year old one, so the tower locations are going to be different.
That's just incorrect. That lift has already been replaced once without destruction. The original Straightbrook double was replaced with a quad without destruction. Same with the North quad. The AE2 is the third lift on that line, and Snoopy rock is there. I'm pretty sure the lift lines on all those quads are narrower than the new HP too. The last 54 years was my engineering career, and in that time construction practices have changed always to more protection of the environment, not less. If the electric company wanted to increase the capacity of the powerline, they couldn't do it without public hearings, and they wouldn't be allowed to dynamite those little rocky drops there. It's a sad state of affairs when powerline right of ways have more protection than Darkside.

Of course I wonder the same thing. I assume it's about cost.

I don't give a fuck about the UMP. I was wondering the elevation is there to improve the glide over for the children.

Power lines provide power for the public so they can live, go to work etc.

Ski areas are for recreation and generally for people with fairly high incomes.

it’s not very hard to understand.

The HP base is below the Saddle, so you should be able to regrade, but I don't think they are allowed to regrade or remove trees if it's not in the UMP. Unless they build a quad, then apparently they can do anything they want without informing the public.
