Dark Side Liftline Photos

eh it is what it is....with enough snow there is always some great skiing on the Darkside and that won't change...we just need some snow!
But there will much less great skiing on Darkside and Darkside wasn’t big to begin with. The section between hullabaloo and lift line has been diminished in size. The boulder piles make for a femur splitting experience under the lift. I think that it will be groomerized with snowmaking.

Its true that many ski areas went bust, but that occurred everywhere in the northeast. I suppose your right, Big Tupper and Paleface would of made it.
These small ski areas died a natural death due to diminished snowfall, changing demographics, lack of capital, and small vertical. I first laugh and then cry when somebody starts up the “let’s rebuild the Big Tupperware” thread.

HP lift line didn’t have snowmaking before, did it?

Didn’t think so. What makes Frk think the boulder piles can be groomerized with snowmaking? I doubt highly they are going to add snowmaking. Maybe the glades have been thinned so much they can drag hoses over from other trails?

I was thinking the same thing about dragging hoses. After riding the lift again today, there just seems to be an incredible amount of debris both boulders and trees that need to be managed if trail is to be skiable. If they just bring up fill to cover everything up, then it will be like an extension of the newly regraded upper cloud. Anyone else have any thoughts on future scenarios?

I think it's gonna take gravel fill and snowmaking to make that liftline skiable. The remaining trees are mostly too tight for me. YMMV.

Exactly. That's something the state run areas needn't worry about.

Unlevel playing field

The best scenario would be if they removed the newly created boulders and downed trees but I'm not crossing my fingers

I don't predict snowmaking. Let's leave that one alone...snowmaking has it's place, but it puts tremendous strain on nearby trees and ultimately leads to their death.

I foresee some excavator work to tamp down the punji stakes 2/3 of the way up and to move some of the boulders towards the entrance. MAYBE some gravel/rubble. Even if they just do the first 2 it should wind up being skiable with normal snowfall.

They'll need to do something, regardless. In its current state just accessing the treed section between liftline and Hull is nigh impossible (officially, anyway).

I've actually got more frustration with the part that CAN'T be repaired----the Open Pit intersection. Can't tell if its the widening of upper cloud, the additional people being dumped off, or combination of both. But there's a whole lot of mess of people at that intersection---dangerous, almost---with where people are stopping to ponder Open Pit. Never used to be like that.
