Exactly my point

If NY’s privately owned ski areas didn’t have to pay state taxes or they got state aid they’d have mo' money for their own upgrades.
I'm not sure why people are so upset that the state owns and operates a few ski areas and invests money to maintain them. If The state didn't build these areas, there would be no skiing and associtated economic development in these locations. So enjoy the experience they provide.

State didn't build Gore

If the state didn't dump money into these places there most certainly would be skiing in the Dacks. NY used to have over 300 ski areas, now there's 40 something, I think. The state created an unlevel playing field. Talk to the owners of smaller hills and get their take.

The state built every bit of Gore with the exception of Ski Bowl.

I mean it's 1/10 of the area, was never part of Gore until the 2000s and was mostly defunct until the state partnered with the town to bring it back. But OK.

I know, I know. I have a soft spot for the ski bowl. It's where I first skied, and we would have family reunions there at the ski hut. ✌️

My point is the line wasn't initially skiable. They made it skiable later.
Yo!, Sno,

Glad to have you back on the new revised forum. I've been reading the posts and have not replied with any pearls of wisdom, since they were not warranted; until now. The Straightbrook and Darkside liftlines were always skiable, just not legal until 2002. March 2002 Gore got 109" of Snow, five feet in the first week, everything was in play! Patrol couldn't say no, they joined in with NYSEF coaches, the Men in Black and Snowsports Instructors on Double Barrel, Cleavage, Darkside and dare I say Highline. What a hoot. The next year's trailmap, 2202-2003 included glades for the first time

That's what I remember, but I don't recall that it happened all at once. I think Straightbrook and Chatiemac were added to the map first. IIRC Darkside was legally opened mid-season after we were skiing it sometime in the early 2000's. We were skiing MacIntyre, Narrows and others years before they were added to the map. I remember after a late February 2012 storm there were tracks through every 12 inch gap between trees all over the mountain. That was my best day ever at Gore.

But I'm old so maybe some those are false memories. Not the one about February 2012. That really happened.

FZ, I’m not upset and I do enjoy the experience they provide. I’m just saying what I said, regarding taxes, is true.
