I am retiring this year.
Congrats! You going to be moving to NC or staying put?

I guess we will switch to ATT when we move up, still can't get a Verizon signal on our property.

You should be able to make calls via wifi.

Verizon are real jerks. During ski season I could get coverage in the town. Now I no longer get cell coverage, I do get some 4g.

Only at home though. Right now there are very few places in town where I can make a call. Everyone in NC has ATT.

Who are you using for internet?

I'd kill for $27 or $40 cable down here. Internet, phone and cable is bundled for $200. And they don't really let you un bundle. Who needs phone? Not me. Remove phone from the plan? Price is still $200.
In NY, the cable companies won't tell you, but they are required to offer basic cable (which is broadcast stations only) for somthing like $15. Broadband is around $60. You can also reduce your bill by buying your own cable box and modem.
Most places you can get broadcast stations by an antenna, and Youtube TV or HBOMax has more content than you could ever watch. I was all set to cut the cord a few months ago until YES was taken off all the streaming services.

i cut the cord 3-4 years ago. very liberating. put $20 antennas on all the tv's for local news stations. got high speed internet through Verizon, sling tv(for yankee games)...
Are you sure the Yankees are still on Sling? They pulled YES off Youtube TV and I think all the other streaming services. The YES app requires you to have a cable subscription with YES included. and even then I don't think it streams games outside your cable area.

ATT is the best in the Dacks, Verizon works OK for me, mostly in Warrensburg and at Gore. TMobile is the best in Manhattan, but it's useless in Albany and north.
Those are the only actual networks. All the other cell phone providers contract to use those 3 networks. You should look at Cricket or some other cell company. Just be sure to get an ATT sim card and that they don't throttle data too much. I cut our bill from over $100 to $42 by switching to Sectrum Mobile, and I got a new Iphone in the bargain.

Harv, staying put, she will still be working. Its only 34 miles away.
MM, I asked if they had a cheaper option and they said that was the cheapest package they offered. We got around 20 channels, didn't even need to have a box.

Where are you? I live in Saratoga and I get broadband with a wireless router and more channels than I want with 2 DVRs for $200. I saved $10 by ditching phone. I would cut the cord in a heartbeat but my Spectrum package is the only way to get all the Yankee games. In NY they need to offer basic cable. Don't ask for a "package", tell them you will cut the cord if they don't offer basic cable.
