Catamount, Berkshire East + Bousquet

They may be color coded for example green for morning, red for afternoon, so lifties can spot tickets that have expired.
?? With RFID gates to access a lift, if the time hasn't started or has expired then the gate won't open.

Jiminy Peak has had RFID for years, so it's not just big resorts out west that have had gates for a while.

Looks like catamount is getting a new lift, see lift blog for the details

I learned a lot about this company listening to this podcast. I will try to throw some money in their direction this winter.

I grew up skiing Berkshire East (and Magic). I remember in the mid 70's when Schaefer, Sr. first came from the mid-west. It was cool to see them put roots down and not only keep a family owned and operated ski area open but to do successfully and sustainably in terms of both growth of operations as well as environmentally. I've also skied Catamount quite a bit over the years. Before the Schafers, Catamount had outgrown its infrastructure, which was aging and was in need of a cash infusion and some new blood.

I wonder what will happen as the Schafer "empire" grows. (BEast, Catamount, Bousquet, and aren't they doing similar (as to Bousquet) mgt for the new Hermitage entity?)

I believe they are involved in hermitage, they are running Bousquet, it will be interesting their next move, do they buy blandford ski area, do they buy butternut? Do they move up to Vermont? Schafers podcast on storm skier was very interesting.

Great interview from Dec 2019 with Jon Schaefer about Berkshire East and Catamount. He runs operations and projects while his brother takes care of the financial aspects of the business. They clearly make a great team.

Bousquet update, this Can change, plans are fluid at Bousquet, but they plan on a new lodge after this season, a new chairlift at some point to replace the blue chairlift, a new maintenance shed will be built near the bottom of the old yellow chair, they are blasting at the top of the Mtn, cutting a new beginer trail of the top so beginners can use the new triple chairlift, lots of hangers, lots of money being spent, at some point the new Bousquet will not look like the old one.
