Bristol Conditions

Snow was nice, crowds were big, but the lift line disorganization that we saw Monday was taken care of on Tuesday and today. Spent some time on the backside the last couple of days as today all four trails were open and we were skiing with our middle granddaughter. Too bad about Comet being closed, but I'm sure the race on it was scheduled way in advance.

Yup, looks bad for snowmaking in the near future...............

Another two day report. Yesterday was great-sunny, snow was nice and softened up nicely by 10:30 or so (not really a good thing on Dec 29!). Obviously no new terrain with the temps.Crowds weren't too bad and spent time on the backside for variety. Quit about 1:30 or so with toasted legs.

Today was overcast and it started sprinkling about 10:30. I quit as we were meeting friends for lunch. Some brown spots starting to appear, so next week looks sketchy for all the trails they have opened now. Crowds were lower than the previous days at the time I left.

According to forecasts, we probably won't see below freezing temps until late next week...............:(

As an aside, I spent almost the entire week skiing on a pair of Atomic FIS spec 158 slalom skis. Great for working on carving on low angle and somewhat crowded slopes plus a good leg workout and they are fun!

Got a chance to make a run with my almost 8 year old granddaughter yesterday morning before the last day of her 4 day Christmas camp. Big improvement over the way she skied on Christmas day! So nice to see the improvement and watch them turn into little rippers.

New Years Day........Moved slowly this AM and got there about 10:30 or so. Crowds were light-the locker room was almost deserted. Essentially no lift lines and the snow was soft but fast. Did four hikes/skates up Hale Bopp to get to the backside hoping to work off some of yesterday's food overserving. Conditions were good considering and they didn't lose as much as I feared. We may make it to the next cold spell with no trail closings.Quit a little after 1:00 as I was getting tired and sloppy-not good in heavy snow!

Skied Monday with 2 granddaughters, passed on Tuesday and Wed in the rain (Rochester was UGLY yesterday) and skied today. No trail closures except for the Challenger terrain park, but lots of brown open spots, and thin snow. Actually not as bad as I anticipated, but more like early April than the first week of January. Can't make snow at 40-50 degrees.........

We may see some below freezing temps at night over the next few days, but we're SOL other than that. A season that started out before Thanksgiving with promise has turned quite disappointing.

Good news! According to the conditions report and verified by the webcams, Bristol has the guns going. I'll report later on how things are-headed down soon.

Good recovery from the way things were last Thursday. Bare spots and holes are filled in with a light coating of natural to cover up the brown in the woods. The Loop (my usual warm up run) was icy and chunky with uneven spots-not a pleasant start. Comet and Rocket were quite nice considering with newly blown snow-some chunks but very skiable. Backside wasn't bad either. Skied until about 11:00 when crowds were starting to get thicker. They were blowing snow on Upper Galaxy and Lower Meteor until the temps got too high. With the snowmaking windows for the next couple of nights, we may see more terrain in the next couple of days.

Bristol is not afraid to turn on the guns when they have the opportunity which separates them from many other resorts. Kudos!

Nice to ski in the sun today! Resurfacing on existing open trails and a good of covering up the thin spots.Unfortunately, nothing new open-they're trying on Upper Galaxy and Lower Meteor, but just not enough low temps.

Gray and foggy with a freezing mist that covered your goggles. Glad I have Ski Gees on all my poles! Most of the morning was spent running beer league training gates on Comet in preparation for our first race tomorrow night. Conditions were variable-hard but edgeable in many spots, but sugar in others. Obviously no new terrain, but hey, we're skiing..............

Better than expected today, especially considering the rain yesterday. Comet and Rocket were edgeable, if somewhat slick and the Loop had nice snow. Snowmaking whales were knocked (from Wed. night) were knocked down on Rocket and Comet. Light coating of new snow, which always helps things. Heard them getting the guns ready to take advantage of the predicted cold temp-maybe finally some new terrain!
