Boyne Mountain 8 Person High Speed Lift

Boyne Resorts clearly had a long term plan in mind when the first 8-seater D-Line was installed with great fanfare at Big Sky. It's quite a nice ride.
If you like things tracked out quick then nothing beats a HS8. Those lifts are scary to ride with a backpack. The molded seats push you forward making you feel like you are gonna fall out. You take it off to put on your lap but the automatic bar comes down on it. People are riding with chest packs now. I also found it interesting that it changes the dynamic of chairlift conversations by having 2 or more groups. Slow cold chairs keep things real.

This area would get tracked out even with a fixed grip quad. As mentioned, the lift is only 2500-2700ft long. This is a pure marketing play. Good for them. The question is - which Boyne reort gets the next HS8?

Possibly just need to go 30-40 mins to the north of Boyne Mtn and you are at Boyne Highlands. Their current HSQ the Heather Express was built in 1990.

@MiSkier : how late do Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands usually stay open in March? I'm toying with the idea of driving to the midwest in late season to visit relatives.

Boyne Mtn will stay open as long as they have snow. Boyne Highlands normally closes around mid March. If you come let me know. I would make the 3.5hr drive to ski the day. Also a better option in my opinion would be Nubs Nob, it's almost across the street from Boyne Highlands.

I'll certainly let you know. Might not be in 2022. I'm curious about midwest skiing in general because it's essentially the only region I haven't skied at all. Not interested in the frigid temps in Jan-Feb though. ;)

I stopped by the base of all three one summer. Just took a quick look after visiting with a cousin who lives near Detroit. Bonus was the dinner show at Boyne Highlands. Especially since my husband was with me and doesn't ski at all. We wander around into the lodge at Boyne Mountain, where they were in the midst of assorted renovations.

Would definitely check out the slopes at Nubs Nob too.

The one good part about frigid weather in January and February is Lake Michigan is still not frozen and you tend to get the lake effect powder.

It’s bad enough getting on a lift with five other people lef alone 7!
Especially if they are beginners, so much potential for someone to miss count. I was on a quad load a couple years ago and a kid slides up on my right? Wtf !
I yelled to the lifty who hadn’t seen him , fortunately he stopped the lift. So I wonder how many times the “ High speed “ lift will stop or slow for Fubar stuff?

With an 8-pack D-Line, there are gates and conveyor loading. Everyone is in place well before they get to where they just sit down as the chair slowly comes up behind them. There weren't any issues with loading when I was at Big Sky, which was the first season the 8-pack was operating.
