Alternatives to Skiing

If I can't downhill, I will break out my x-c skis that I ski once a year on, and see if I can't manage to stay upright on the 6 foot hill in the land preserve by my house. I may need to find new boots, though. They're kind of falling apart.

Can we morph into flatbread pizza? I live 20 minutes from any pizza place (other than the Dandy Mart/gas station), so I just make my own version using tortillas. My go to is a Mexican version, with cheddar, black olives, avocado and homemade salsa fresca out of the freezer.

Nope. It's a variation of this, that I got from my mom. The quesadilla is when I do it on the stove, with two tortillas and all the goodies inside, and dunk it in the salsa. Quesadillas are also quite handy to eat in the car, on the go, sans salsa.

Somewhere on page 2 this thread drifted to pizza / food/ booze, then briefly back 1 sentence and back to food?
There is some really good skiing in the Siamese Pond Wilderness around North River NY., back country that is, some really nice tours with some nice down sections Raymond Brook has 1600 vert in four miles. This is where you will find me and also at Garnet Hill where I also Groom xc trails.

I priced dry suits. They’re expensive so winter paddling is probably a last resort for me. I guess NELSAP skinning is most likely if there’s snow on the ground or winter hiking if there’s not. Then again there’s always beer and Netflix

When you go to Taos, try the pizza at Pizzano's. It's close to the intersection between US64 and RT150 that goes up the mountain. My friend who is from the southern Adirondacks considered it good NY style pizza the first time she went a few years ago. I enjoyed what I had a couple years ago. We ended up there because on Super Bowl Sunday most of the restaurants around Taos are closed for the day.

Thanks! I’m going to be stopping in Taos for lunch next week actually !

C'mon people. The best pizza is in, duh, Italy. Of course, go over there and the Romans would be arguing with the Milanese who would be arguing with the Sicilians about the best.
