ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

This came across my feed too. Dumb clickbait article by a site for performance tuning. Obviously a 25 year old car is going to have no depreciation, it's 25 years old! Secondly his estimate of maintenance of $40/year or whatever,? Absolute BS. Our extremely well maintained '03 V6 Camry...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Ask who if new plans are coming, PSEG? Anything I should research specifically? I've been using EnergySage which is nice cause they give you a breakdown of the preliminary quotes at least

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Yeah, they are stupidly expensive. GAF and https://www.certainteed.com/products/solar-products/sunstyle both make solar shingles, but not sure how prevalent they are in the NE.

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

@DomB What state/utility do you live in where you do all that complicated solar credit arbitrage? I have a 35+ year old roof that needs to be replaced and starting to look into solar, though not sure it's worth it with a large tree I'd rather not cut down. I believe in Jersey you don't get...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Dude, every service has been at least $500. I don't even think the 40k is anything special with my car. That's pretty much the standard going rate at dealerships now. Now that it's out of warranty I may take it to a local shop but they have gotten things wrong before. It's a late 2018...

Also the endless belts and chains was not Alltrack specific, but generally with any old car. What does Honda charge for routine yearly maintenance? What will Ford? It's a question more people should ask

VW. I don't love modern Toyotas. The interiors are cheap and basic. 4 way lumbar is a must for me, hard to get in a Toyota. Y is a hatchback, but surprisingly big in terms of cargo capacity. I think it can tow 4000 pounds? Didn't you say the only reason you want a truck is to tow a 1000...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Every year I take my Alltrack to the stealership for routine service, and it's $700 minimum. Regardless of the miles driven. Once the car starts getting older then it's endless belts, chains, sensors, fluids etc... I was only estimating about $1300 in gas savings actually. If you charge off...

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

I got the $7500 federal tax credit and paid no sales tax in Jersey, so that was about $10K right off the price for me. Then you save about $2k/year in gas and maintenance. Depending on what you are comparing an EV may end up being cheaper in the long run.

In the website they have some inspo designs. I do think it would be great as an open air beach buggy, or a small business transport

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Yeah that's my question. Bolting on parts after the fact won't be as nice as something that was designed for it from the ground up. For example a tablet that isn't integrated into the car's functionality, or two speakers in the front only. How would the AC even work for the SUV extension? I...

I think it is sold here as the Escape Plug-In Hybrid.

ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

Even aside from needing electricity, with my old POS Escape the gas pump did not always work. The pump would constantly turn off, and it would be difficult to get a full tank. I believe it had something to do with cold temperatures and back pressure due to poor tank ventilation.
