Stratton Conditions

Drove up yesterday and skied the last 2 hours. There was packed powder everywhere. Great chopped powder on Standard, skiers left in the Supertrail, and upper Middlebrooks.

I was staying in the area over the weekend and got out there for a couple hours Sunday afternoon. Blacks on the main face had been scraped down to ice in spots but still fun, and upper Kidderbrook was great. Last run of the day I planned to take Supertrail back to the car but saw untracked lines leading to the blacks on the right and detoured to Rising Star. The steeper parts were cut up but still piles of deep soft stuff, no ice to be found. I don't really have the skills or the skis for that but it was so fun. I was figuring Monday would be packed powder all over the mountain, wish I could have stayed!

Another great day at Stratton. Packed powder on all the groomed trails and zero traffic. The ungroomed areas are getting a little skied out, but there are still fun areas of chopped powder.

Today was a mess. Sleet most of the morning with a switch to drizzle after lunch. Since temps were right around freezing the lovely snow we have been skiing on turned into paste. Still, I was skiing! The sad part is the drop in temps is going to revive the frozen granular hard pack ice we Easterners all know too well. Oh, visibility sucked, too.

Tamarack, I think ;)
Right now it is blowing 25mph plus and temps are dropping. Bring your Tacks tomorrow!

Today was Gore's turn to get lucky!

Stratton is quite good today. It. Is sunny, cold and windy with the usual wind holds. The groomed trails are excellent. The ungroomed are petrified and mostly closed until they groom.

Arrived at 1:30pm. With the gondola down, Amex had a nice line. But once you got to the upper lifts it was skiing right on. The lower angle trails had great conditions. The steeper trails had lots of heavy granular over styrofoam. The natural trails have been groomed. It was cold with a heavy wind blowing down the trails. Glad I was able to ski today!

Repairing the roof of the gondolas upper building. It got ripped open by a 100mph gust. They are hoping to have it open by Saturday.

Skiing was excellent today. It was freezing between the temps and wind. Packed powder on many trails. The wind did mess with the speed of the HS chairs all day. They have fixed the roof of the top gondola building and were loading the gondola from about 11am thru the rest of the day.

It should be a great weekend with moderating temps.
