Gore Mountain Conditions

I don’t think they can stay open until mid March unless they get more than one big storm. Except for the race course the whole mountain is really thin.

From tomorrow’s marketing report, another weekday with the interconnect open. Also -
Join us at 10am at the base of the Hudson Chair for a celebration of the completion of phase 1 of the North Creek Ski Bowl Project with the opening of the new lift. We’ll talk about the upgraded lift as well as the next steps in the revitalization of the ski bowl.
Followed by another chorus of Kumbaya.
The bad news is that Echo is closed for racing again, so enjoy your slog on Cedars if you want to try that new lift.

CMR and I skied Gore today and were actually pleasantly surprised. Hawkeye, Chatiemac, Topridge and Twister were pretty good, and Echo, Backwoods, and the whole ski bowl were open with decent conditions. I was told that Tahawus was great, but we never made it over there.
But the real surprise was to see snowmaking on the entire stretch of Showcase and Quicksilver, with large parts of Sunway as well, plus at least some of Lower Sleighride (we didn't ski it so I don't know how far it went). I have never seen so many guns operating at once. We always wondered if there was a capacity limit to what Gore can blow at one time because we only ever saw small areas, so this was new. It also makes me wonder what caused this new push after so many days and weeks of very little activity.

I was there today and it looked to me like less volume of snowmaking than I've seen every cold day I've been to Whiteface, Belleayre or Windham this year. The section of Sunway that was impassable 10 days age was the best snow on the mountain, but the majority of trails still have bare spots and are sand and gravel on the surface, I've never seen Gore in such poor shape this late in the season.

Skied Gore yesterday. My conclusion: they got a late start and built a poor base, but are now trying.
Made first tracks on 46 and it held up well for five runs. Easy to lap it quickly with the new lift over there. Moxam & Oakridge fun but narrow. Village Slopes very wide and smooooth.
Echo had some giant death cookies at the top and they were erecting race fencing. The bottom skied well. Sagamore has no snow.
Hawkeye skied decently but the top of Chat still sketchy.
Topridge was a pleasant surprise as the squeaky cold snow skied very well. Lapped it several times on that deadly slow triple. But a dirty section 2/3 down won't hold up long to the south-facing sun.
Twister & Tahawus skied well. Backwoods is a nice blue, but the narrowing near the bottom will be challenging for intermediates.
Gore is very late to the party this year but they seem to finally be trying. However with the thin base it won't go deep into the season unless mother nature provides.
