Gore Mountain Conditions

Forget "100% open by Christmas, no excuses!" Sno, I'm not even optimistic that they'll be 100% open by 3/15.

My wife and I had a long discussion about Gore. The mountain this year exudes the vibe that no-one really cares about it. It just feels neglected, no care or love put into it. More so than ever. The whole thing is in a sad state.

It's not 100% by Christmas, it's all lifts by Christmas. I like to see all snowmaking trails by MLK Weekend or at least the end of January. But yes, Gore is far enough behind that there will likely be many trails that don't make the cut.

Avoid Gore if you have the option. Snowmaking there this year is the worst in the past couple of decades. Because so little snow has been put down, grooming often brings up hundreds of small black rocks.
Even Tahawus, which has generally been the best groomed trail this year, now has sections peppered with small stones.
It's becoming doubly expensive to ski Gore, with the bottom jobs which your skis require because of the bad conditions.
Skied Whiteface several times this year and the conditions were quite nice. And Killington always does a good job.
I’m the first one to jump on the Trash Gore Bus, but that’s not gravel you’re seeing on Tahawus. I skied it three times yesterday and it has consistently had the best snow all season. There are a lot of gravel spots on the mountain, but 98% of what you see on Tahawus is conifer twigs blown out of the trees by the high winds.

To hell with cones... I had similar problems a couple of weeks ago in the same LOT D. Had to do a 20 point K Turn to inch out of the squeeze because of the line of cars ALLOWED to park single file down the center of the travel lanes. These are within eye sight of the offices. Post parking attendants, or listen to the complaints of the shuttle drivers and skiers parked in and have a tow truck hired for the weekend days. This is a continual problem being ignored. Possibly even consider reconfiguring the direction of the parking if there is indeed extra space? Eventually you WILL have a honest to goodness confrontation complete with State Police involved. Come to think of it... What would a trooper do if called?

I did some things today at Gore, that I've never done...

Slept until 8am, took our time
Arrived at the mountain at 11:30
Parked down in Wevertown almost, walked up
Booted up in the lodge midday
Skied from 12:15 to 3:30

Sometimes you get outvoted. I want to stay home and ski in our woods.

I need a hug. 🤠

My contributions to conditions:

Neve ALWAYS wants to ski the top. I was skeptical as when we reached the saddle, we saw a steady stream Clouding out. It was deserted up there. We skied Hawkeye to Chatiemac and it was pretty scary.

Neve relented and we finished the day on the North side and the front. Decent skiing considering how late in the day and how crowded it was.

Lot D almost ate me too!
