The Fire and Rain and Smoke Thread

Meanwhile, half an inch of snow overnight. Black ice on the Cascades Lakes section of Route 73.... a truck went in to a ditch. Ugh.

Brush fire in PA on Blue Mountain. Started with a brush fire on Sat afternoon. Don't know the area well enough to know how close the fire is to the Blue Mountain Resort. There is a picture in the article from Sat night after dark. The last report I found this morning said the size of the fire was up to 100 acres.

It's really bad. We're now going on 34 days without any measurable precip and no rain in the forecast for the next 7 days.

It’s a few miles away but creeping Eastward slowly, the wind is supposed to increase from the South but a little westward component on Tuesday which is concerning.
The north side of the mountain has lots of more volatile vegetation, pines and fallow brushy fields.

The approach to fighting the Blue Mountain fire seems quite different than what happens in the west. Or maybe it just the reporting.
