ORDA's Biggest Mistakes

I'm pretty sure chatgtp could come up with a maintenance plan.. Even the free version. Each venue has top dog isn't that their job?
That’s funny I was thinking the same thing. “Hey Siri, how much does a new roof cost?”, then you 3x the number because it’s the state.

There was a comment by someone at the board meeting to the effect, after the contractors build something they give us binders that are placed on shelves for reference...

ORDA’s skiing infrastructures aren’t plug&play.
Some are very unique (Big Jumps & Sliding Track)

Shoulda Woulda Coulda started the maintenance discussion instead of WUG-ing it or in that time frame.

Maybe it’s all just for show to ask for mo money.

Meanwhile down the road,

the snow is good and the ski season is rolling on.

If this was a private company somebody would be getting fired.
Working for the state they'll probably get a raise and a promotion.
 
Every hour is amateur hour at ORDA.

What could possibly go wrong when you hire an ex-luger to run ORDA despite zero operational experience in anything, let alone running 3 large ski venues, ski jumping facilities, a bobsled facility, x country facilities, and ice rinks, all with day lodges? As we continue to see, the complications are enormous and beyond the depth of the current leader. Realistically, running ORDA might beyond the depth of anybody at the current leader's salary level. Now ORDA reveals that there is a problem with ongoing maintenance and outside help is needed. Is anybody really surprised? Over the last few years ORDA has spent over $100million on day lodges alone. Did they not wonder what was going to happen after the lodges were built?

One of the current ORDA failures (there are others) is what is happening right now at the Ski Bowl Lodge, a newly built $30 million (plus) with zero anwer for septic. What was the plan?

What exactly does the ORDA Board do? Does anybody have to answer for these mistakes?

The 3 ski areas probably should be split off from the other Olympic Facilities as there might be a larger pool of qualified candidates to run the ski areas. If the ski areas were a separate entity, they would not get financially bogged down with the unique needs of the Olympic venues. There are probably other ways to try and fix this mess, but status quo always wins at ORDA.
 
Let's also keep in mind this is the same group of "executives" who are responsible for losing a record $50 million last year. ORDA's response, nothing to see here, as usual.

One thing ya forgot is The Castle and it’s environs.

Recently ORDA put a lot of money into fixing up The Castle and they tout it..
They’ve been trying to fix some of the things they’re responsible for, but seems management now realizes it needs help.

C’mon Camp.
They rationalized it as depreciation.They’re pretty good at depreciation since they built&rebuilt all the stuff.
Depreciation ain’t cash. Money is what ya need to fix & maintain things.

Maybe they shoulda bought long term service contracts when they had the stuff built or at least thought about it.

For anyone who watched the meeting or has info beyond what's in the reporting, does this bit...

Yes, at this point there is no opening date for the new lodge.
The idea of making snow at Ski Bowl early to highlight the new lodge was a novel idea. But, now that the lodge is not going to open, and the Minder Lodge is going to be what is open, and compounded by the decison to not blow the upper mountain yet, is a headache...
