Games of Some Olympiad

Why don’t they throw Albany a bone? Give some love to a place that needs it. The Olympics needs to return to the spirit of small towns and amateur athletes. The pros, mega-cities and made for TV drama have ruined it.
Agree!
I used to be glued to the TV when the Olympics are on. Not so much anymore. There are a few events I won't miss but not like the old days.

An Olympics in NYC sounds like it would be a bunch of over the top nonsense, not to mention paralyzing.
I think it would be a financial boondoggle. Agree about NYC metro area being paralyzed.

IMHO the Olympics these days are about spectacle as much as, or more so, than sport. Albany is a good idea, but I'd bet you a dollar it's not fancy enough for the IOC big shots.
Maybe rebuild our relationship with our friendly northern neighbors, who actually have snow, and host a first ever dual nation games.

In the meantime, start by getting a shuttle from the Adirondack Express in Westport to Lake Placid for the rest of us.

This is happening to a certain extent in Milano-Cortina. About half the athletes are staying in Cortina d'Ampezzo, the remainder in Milano.

I'd love to know the details on "investments in public transit, housing, accessibility, and youth sport." It's harder these days to get countries to bid on an Olympics, they're a money pit.
Yup.

What’s "A legacy fund could...” imply?
ORDA was created after the 80’s games went broke.

After all the money invested in ORDA over the years it should be turn-key by now.
With all the new key-less stuff around, maybe some type of AI-magic might even work.

Whatever those guys were smoking when they wrote that op-ed, I want some.

In 1980 they should have moved some of the events out of Lake Placid. I don’t think there were any international size hockey rinks anywhere else but figure skating would have been better in Madison Square Garden and maybe then they wouldn’t have had to build the second rink. Stowe could have had a better downhill course but I’m sure no one would have gone along with that.
It was crazy that a tiny upstate town could leverage the whole state.

Was in Oxford Miss. when the '80 games were on & watched the miracle on a shitty portable B&W tube. The flag the goalie wore on his shoulders after the W was given to him by a friend of ours who runs the fantastic F&B at Tusky where we golf.

Transportation was a big headache for the 1980 games.

I have to apologize. Whether it's LP, Albany, or NYC, at least two new venues would need to be built. Long track and short track speed skating is now held on indoor tracks.
