Old, whimpy skier question....
How would the Village Slopes compare:
To Lower Sunway off Bear Cub Quad at Gore
It feels like a shorter run, and it may be slightly steeper. But it is definitely way easier than the portion of Sunway between 3B and Pete's Paradise.
Since I live 1,000 miles away and only get to ski a couple of days a year at each, I decided to do a bit of research.
Open Ski Map says the following:
Village Slopes has a 141 ft vertical on a 0.19 mile horizontal (average slope 14%).
Lower Sunway has a 167 ft vertical from the top of Bear Cub and appears to have a distance of ~0.38 miles with an average slope of approximately 8%.
To Otter, Moose, or Bobcat at Whiteface?
I would tell a novice skier that they have a similar level of difficulty. Open Ski Map says:
Otter has a 243 ft vertical and 0.32 mile horizontal (average slope 14%).
Moose has an average slope of 11%.
Maybe Village Slopes at Ski Bowl will feel the same???
Those on this forum who get more than a couple of days a year at Gore and Whiteface can chime in if they disagree with that assessment. But I would check out the ski bown when the Village Slopes chair is running if I were you!
Just remember it is definitely a smaller scale beginner skiing operation than Bear Den Lodge, with much less to do.
And if you wanted something more, it may be worth checking out the green Peaceful Valley trail off the Hudson Chair. Like Sunway, it has some flat mixed in with a few sections of more challenging green terrain (a similar challenge to the bit of Sunway just before Pete's, but maybe narrower). But depending on how you feel about that part of Sunway, I think it might be worth considering. The nice thing is that it is a lot less busy than Sunway, and if you are able to ski it, it is a very rewarding part of the mountain.
