Ski Bowl 3.0 at Gore

At the end of my very short stint as a ski bum at Smuggs, around this time of year (just before Thanksgiving and when the mountain first opened for the season) I hightailled it outta there on a train home with a pit stop to see a friend on Queechy lake near the NY-Mass border Twas ~50 year ago. Fun times.

Sno, what do you think would be a realistic travel time from Penn to North Creek with the current tracks but no stops? Is there a a realistic theoretical model for a dedicated ski train run by Amtrak or Metro North?

Looks like the Phoenix has Sold and/or rebranded:

There's also the Alpine and the B&B.
I believe this is operated by the same company that runs the Alpine. Weekender hotels.

Metro North recently announced direct service to Albany.

Why did Amtrak reduce their schedule if there is enough demand for Metro North to add trains?
From the MTA press release on this, sounds like Amtrak cut service due to repairs on the East River tunnel, not due to lack of demand.

Was a bigger priority to NYS (and especially its political class, I assume) to maintain service so they figured out a way to run it on MetroNorth originating from Grand Central. Not clear from the press release how much this is gonna cost the state.

Apparently the MetroNorth fares will be $40 one way, much cheaper than Amtrak, so you'd think there will be pressure to maintain this service even after Amtrak routes are restored. I'm not sure how the timetables compare. You can go NYC to Philly on commuter rail for a big discount compared to the Amtrak fare but it takes twice as long, at least (though that one requires a transfer).

If Gore had a Gondola from the town to the base, a snow train from Atlantic Terminal and/or Penn Station would be incredible for city folks

Weekender Hotels bought the Town House Lodge in Lake Placid a while back. Looking at the locations Weekender has in the Adirondacks, they seem to know what they are doing. I used to stay at the Town House in 2014-16. Not on the LP main drag but only a couple block walk. Big rooms with picture windows and kitchenettes. Single story so park right in front of the room. Was owned by an older couple who were very friendly. They moved to Florida.
