ORDA's Biggest Mistakes

Speaking of ORDA....

Here we f'n go. Everyone and their brother is jumping on the bandwagon and making a mountain out of a molehill. This hatchet job looks like it's largely a cut and pasted copy of the Adirondack Explorer piece.

EDIT: I'd be ashamed to put anything like this out under my byline.

You're spot on. I'd love to know what kind of trees the cut. I'd almost guarantee they weren't 36" Oak, Cherry, or Maple.
Protect the Adirondacks is shitting all over them. It's truly ridiculous.

Perhaps. I don't recognize any of the names on the board of directors.

The whole downhill course issues are totally on ORDA. UCI has rules for race courses and I'm sure they were followed. IF ORDA had disclosed those rules to DEC at the beginning of the approval process no one could have had any reason to object after the race. IME (which includes siting pipeline routes) there is always someone who wants to save every single tree, and they will take advantage of every mistake or omission by the developers.
As for Protect the Adirondacks, when some private equity guy wants to build a Walmart or a second Mara Lago on the Whitney Estate we will be on the same side, but PTA will be way more effective.

mm

I don't think you're giving the ADK locals enough credit. They know what they want and don't want. They have LOCAL elected officials in place and don't need a group of city lawyers acting as an obstruction group. It wasn't that long ago they were trying to push through a lithium ion battery farm near Raquette Lake. Peter Bauer, then director of PTA, stood in front of locals and said it would be a good fit. The locals fought and won. The battery farm never happened. Protect has a clear agenda, and that is to turn the ADK into a playground for the wealthy.

Because without the wealthy, there would be no pta ;)
How true!

What's truly ironic is my grandfather and Howard Zahniser were friends. Zahniser's had/have a camp off of Edwards Hill Rd in Bakers Mills. I remember going there as a kid. My grandfather called them summer people.
