ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

You can link your rivian in the phone app "ABRP" - a better route planner. When you link it up, it gives you real time data on your vehicle, including how much usable battery capacity you have. ABRP is a ev routing software. I think Rivian bought them at some point.
Thanks. Maybe sometime I'll do it. I just drive it. It never got the advertised mileage. Seems about the same. It may be losing a little by not enough to matter.

Cool. I ll look for the youtube video on how to link it. I was pretty pleasantly suprised that I have lost less than 1% of range over 36,000 plus miles coming on 3 years in January. Your use case is beastly. I wonder if you are the highest mileage actual user.

The Australians are well aware of BYD. Given the higher cost of cars in general because Australia is a limited market (far away, right-hand drive) there are many brands/models they can't get.
Even before the acquisition, I used ABRP because it was one of the pretty good mapping apps for routing with chargers. Chargeway is also good - much easier to use. ABRP lets you tweak more.

Curiosity caused me to look at 9 months of my solar system. Basically I generated 3/4 of my use but because of my time of use plan, charging at night, and the solar battery automatically charging at night and discharging into the grid at peak 4x rates, I have a bank of 12,000 kw.

Tesla app says I ‘saved’ 2,600 YTD. That sounds directionally right because my ‘bill’ is down below pre solar and my consumption is way up due to the Rivian.

I wonder about this as well.
I like hearing from actual users (you guys) vs to read anything on these here intrawebZ.

TJ, how many sets of tires have you been on in 80k. In an ice truck you'd be on, or looking for set #3.

4th. Put them on around 75k. I'm getting them dialed in. Last set I got 35k. They ain't cheap. 400 bucks per tire.

I've heard if people doing that in Cali. Nat grid doesn't offer plans like that. Do you have Tesla batteries?
The system you are working with is what I would like to build. To do it and cover everything is a 90k bill. I can't afford it

Agree - it was interesting but a bit too generic masked as not generic by having a state-by state break down.
Full disclosure, I don't have a subscription to the Times, I was able to see the graphic in the email, but didn't read the article.

TBH, for me, it strains credibility that a hybrid is so close to an EV with home charging. The maintenance on a hybrid should be almost as much as an ICE, right?

May depend on how someone drives a PHEV. There are people who drive using EV 80% of the time. Obviously still need to change oil but not necessarily just based on the odometer miles driven.

What type of maintenance are you thinking about? For how many years?

Maintenance seems like it would be higher. You have all the ice requirements and electric
