ICE v Electric: Cost and Emissions

I read this article as well. I don't think they factored in off peak charging rates which would decrease the cost of home charging further, and they definitely didn't include the cost of accumulated maintenance on an ICE car. That being said driving a Hummer EV will probably cost you a lot more then driving a regular old hybrid Prius.

Life's a bummer when you're [driving] a Hummer
Agree - it was interesting but a bit too generic masked as not generic by having a state-by state break down.

Have I said that I like this thread?

PS I saw a video by someone called the electric viking (in australia no less) saying that sodium (sodium!) batteries are the next big thing. My chemistry is limited to AP in High school but once 5 minute charging is available in the US it will get really interesting.

Demand wise, I didn't think EV demand would get as high as it did as quick as it did. It is going to be interesting to see how much it falls and what mfgs do in response. I am frankly suprised to see price cuts. I just thought they would choose not to sell them (of course tesla or rivian can't make that choice). . . .

I watched the electric Viking he has been saying sodium ion batteries have been coming for the last year or so none of it has come to fruition

Seems ORDA tain’t tickled on level 3 chargers neither
Evolve New York has a bunch of people running it that do not drive EVS. I've sent letters and tried to get interviews with the big wigs that run the place. They all refused to talk to me and tell me the charges are working fine. Evolve New York charging stations have to be close to the worst charging stations available as far as reliability goes.

So sorry about this. Early on ish they were pretty good (I would say early to mid 2023). I could pull 150-175 kw no problem, including for the one that is an exit north of Gore in a gas station off 87. Then I think they fired the vendor (maybe because they were not maintaining), but this is such a sad indictment on how the state runs them.

It looks like the newer-ish ones are EA (i.e. the one in Kingston), which I have only had a problem with once. It is pretty unacceptable that they won't try to fix it.

Having just come back from Portugal I saw many electric cars. Gas is about $1.74Euro per liter which is about $7.40 per gallon, so I guess electric makes even more economic sense.

While there is a large percentage of Tesla, I saw Europe has many brands we don't have. One that caught my eye was BYD, a Chinese company. All electric, super high tech, really nice interior. Took a couple Bolt (Uber) rides in the Atos model (compact suv) and they were really nice. The drivers said they loved the car.

You got the only reliable one inside the blue line. Even the brand new ones at the newcomb exit kick errors every time. I just hook into Tesla up there.

Does the NY State Power Authority & the NY Olympic Regional Development Authority coordinate for electrical efficiency?
Seems in this day and age they should.
