ORDA Snowmaking Improvements

It's a good sign that they are planning $2.5 million at Belleayre and Whiteface, but $4.5 million at Gore. Maybe they are responding to all the public complaints about Gore earlier this year. I hope this means things will be better next year.

There is no mention of the septic system for the Ski Bowl, unless it falls under 'snowmaking, trails and electrical inprovements' in the ORDA world.

Nice share, @tirolski. When that pile was growing in February, I thought they were preparing to defend the 5k loop for the SuperTour Finals in case of a meltdown. During the SuperTour 40 km classic race, I interviewed Jake Handerhan, the van Ho trail supervisor. He gets an appearance towards the end of the article. Some of the better reporting I've done.

I should add, Craftsbury Outdoor Center in VT has stockpiled snow for some time. Unsure where else it's done in the US.

One term used is "snow blanket." The concept has been in use in Scandinavia for a while.

Snow Secure is a company based in Finland that sells "snow insulation." The office for the American market is based in Santa Fe.

Great share, @MarzNC. I might forward this to ORDA. It looks in the videos like they're saving a lot more snow than the Ho.

Did you look at the Snow Secure website? There are separate sections for Alpine and Nordic.

This videos shows the installation of the "blanket" over a pretty large pile of snow. May be for the base of a ski jump, which is under Nordic.

I did look at that, and the video for Ruka, which is the first stop on the nordic World Cup. Good stuff.
