Need help deciding where to visit regularly (from Pittsburgh)

Late to this thread but unless you plan on staying there weeks at a time, or flying into Albany, having a vacation home more then a 4 hour drive is crazy to me. I used to predominantly be a Killington Skier but switched over to Gore 5 or 6 years ago cause the extra 45 minutes after 4 hours of driving killed me.

I'd also like to buy something in the next few years if finances allow. I do worry about investing in something whose value depends on cold weather and snow...

Yes it is. Still wouldn't change a thing.

Although I'm not sure I'd call it a "home."

I agree that having a vacation home 7 hours away is crazy. From my experience, every hour you add to the drive over 2 hours cuts down on the number of times you'll use it exponentially. Two hours away, you can leave on Friday at 6:00 and be there by 8:00 and restaurants are still open.

Marylou's widower is adamant about not selling to NYS or a developer. Good article:
NYS doesn't need to buy this property. Let him find the buyer he seeks that will preserve the land as they did.
We already have the largest park in the contiguous US: 6 million acres of which 45% is public land.
With the NYS fiscal mess, it would be frivolous to spend 180M taxpayer $ to buy this land, take it off the tax rolls, and create additional economic impact by more lost jobs in the Adirondack Park.

My 2 cents!
Looks like the Long Laker town folks are gonna get a windfall when it’s sold.

Incredible right. I say sell it to the state for 80 million and be done with it.

According to wiki the town of LL has a population of <800 as of 2020.
So $80M divided by 800 = $100K for everyone.
If they get $125M for the place then it’s >$156K per capita.
Long Lakers won the lottery.
