You know as I was hiking along the top of the ridge yesterday, I kept marveling at how dry everything was and thinking, “ hope nobody does anything stupid up here. The only way to put water on these slopes would be with aircraft.” And sure enough, this morning I saw a post about a brushfire at Rockland Lake. Hopefully it doesn’t get out of hand
Heard a forest ranger on the news say they thought the Jennings Creek fire started where 2 trails crossed. (Lake to lake & West Valley hiking trails in Sterling Forest State Park). How it started it needed to be investigated when it’s safer to study.
Be careful out there folks.

Yesterday, I scoped a section of the Jackrabbit Trail in Paul Smiths. I walked south from Jones Pond Rd. Paul Smiths College maintains some of these woods for the DEC. First foto taken in an area that had seen some logging. Curious if the sign memorializes the students who worked that section.
Second foto: a short, steep downhill.
Third foto: After a couple miles in the woods, the trail follows this dirt road approximately 1.5 miles b4 turning into the woods, heading south towards Saranac Lake Airport.
Don't forget to wear orange at this time of year.

My daughter found a couple of short hikes while we were in Chamonix last week. Nice to be able to take a short train ride for day trips. We had Eurail passes, but when staying at a hotel we could ride the train for free.

That’s beautiful Marz.
I spent quite a bit of time in the fields Vallorcine in the spring of ‘93. The train station was there but no lift or hotels yet. Only the summer pasture shanty barns and a few chalets were there. In the winter you could ski off Le Tour and take the train back. Come spring we would hike up from where we lived in Argentierre to boulder and climb the crags.
Such a wonderful place and a great time to be there. Thanks for posting!
