Games of Some Olympiad

Note the ORDA spokesperson's non-answer.

They have the facilities for sure, but I don't see how LP can handle the influx of people you'd have for the Olympics. Plus, the IOC seems to prefer a bright lights, big city kind of vibe for the host venue these days.

Is an NYC Winter Olympics out of the question? All ice events in the city @ the various hockey arenas, and skiing and jumping in LP. Would think they could handle the reduced capacity that way. It’s about a 4.5 hour drive. Most Olympics lately, both summer and winter, seem to be quite spread out. No idea if anything that far though. I’m not saying it’s a good idea, but I would think NY politicians would LOVE that sort of boondoggle.

I think it could be done if it's spread out. The I.O.C. changed the rules a few years ago so that the venues could be far apart (although I don't know how far). I think a multi city games would be good. Certainly better for security. So I think L.P. could handle a good number of athletes and visitors.

When asked about the extent of ORDA’s involvement in creating the bill, ORDA Director of Communications Darcy Norfolk responded with a statement from the authority.

“ORDA appreciates the Assembly’s ongoing support for our venues in Lake Placid,” the statement read. “The 2023 Lake Placid FISU World University Games will showcase the North Country and New York state’s ability to host successful events. We are proud to be stewards of our heritage and environment as we plan an exciting future.”

Emphasis added.

The WUG is warmups.
Don’t forget Gore’s more recent involvements with the other outdoor games stuff.
It ain’t all Lake Placid...

Will be curious to see how this plays out.

from the article:
While he said there’s a slim chance that Lake Placid could handle another Olympics alone, he thought it would be “very feasible” to host the Olympics here along with another municipality in the state. Devlin agreed.

With hundreds of millions of dollars being funneled into upgrades at local Olympic facilities, Doty said, it makes sense to put those venues to work. But Doty thought that, for now, the state Olympic Regional Development Authority is more focused on hosting events of a more “manageable size,” like world cup and championship events.

Think that makes way more sense is much more attainable.
