AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Albany NY
945 PM EST Mon Jan 13 2025
.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Below normal temperatures are expected at the start of the period as
as troughing begins to work into the eastern Great Lakes from the
north. This will set the stage for redeveloping snow shwrs on
Thursday, with continuation through early Friday. After this, weak
upper-level ridging builds in for the end of the work week which
should result in dry, a slightly warmer conditions for the beginning
half of the upcoming weekend. The next chance for appreciable precip
looks to arrive later on the day on Saturday as a low pressure
system and trailing cold front approach from the west. With
afternoon temps expected to warm into upper 30s to lower 40s across
the lower elevations, a rain/snow mix is expected before everything
changes over to snow later in the evening. Precip with this boundary
should make a fairly quick departure early Sunday, with cooler temps
(upper 20s to lower 30) expected for afternoon highs. After this,
attention then shifts to a possible coastal storm system that
deterministic guidance shows sliding up the coast Sunday night into
Monday. For now, have capped pops off in the chance category
considering the distance into the forecast period.
