Where should New Milo ski next?

Belle from Overlook on a week day.

Bromley on a sunny day.

Magic on a powder day.

Elk is the anti-Platty. Nice enough hill and good grooming but uptight vibe and "No tree skiing" signs everywhere is a stoke stomper for me. Hopefully that changes with new ownership. If you like bumps Tunk in the spring is a blast if you can catch the window, they close early though.

Montage is ok. Ill hit it on the Indy pass for a change of scenery but always leaves me somewhat uninspired

I'd put Greek on the list, especially if the LE machine is on.

Fanboi of Pico and Magic. (which reminds me how lame I am that I never posted a report from my Gore Whiteface, Pico, Magic Skifari a few weeks ago)

As resident of the Commowealth of PA I skied almost all the areas in the state. For the most part I agree with Gorgonzola’s assessment of Elk and Montage. Elk is by far the best SKIING in the state. For vertical drop, conditions, snow making, grooming, variety, challenge (by PA standards) and quantity of different runs. ~16 individual runs fanning out from top of the mountain (a lot by PA standards). No other area in state has that to offer. When it comes to amenities and lifts Elk leaves a lot to be desired. The current owners are dealing with self inflicted bad management. A lawsuit with the neighboring housing development and poor relations with local community I imagine impacts its saleability. Montage’s current owners seem to be on the right track and definitely worth a days skiing. Unfortunately they are not much unlike every other hill in PA. As MarzNC stated the area is sort of split in two. The bottom 4 runs offer a nice challenge albeit a short one. The long haul lift rarely runs which can offer a true 1000’ of vertical on two runs. The area that Platty most emulates is MRG. I am surprised by the lack of love MRG (my perception) seems to receive on this blog. It is by far and away my favorite VT area.

It's by far my most favorite ski area on the east coast and in my top 5 of all time.

Camp mentioned Smuggs, it's an awesome EC mountain too but MRG just has that extra something special that makes it stand alone.

I'm often surprised by the lack of love for MRG on here as well. I used to drive to the MRV in blizzard conditions to ski there for a day or two and then head back home. There just isn't anything like it in the United States honestly.

Top 5 list......in no specific order -

Jackson Hole
Snowbird
Taos
Mad River Glen
Crested Butte

Honorable Mention -
Telluride

MRG's lack of attention here has multiple reasons.
1. As mentioned, it is hard to get to.
2. It is risky to visit due to almost no snowmaking.
3. You can get a similar experience at Sugarbush with the added attraction of snowmaking and HS lifts, plus you can drive over to MRG if you desire.
4. They still reject snowboarders which sucks.

If Sugarbush was a closer drive from NJ, I would have figured a way to make it my home mountain.

I also need to give props to Pico. Due to the Ikon pass we now hit Pico a couple of times per season. It is an awesome place to ski.
