Western Wolf reintroduction

Coyotes have a density dependent response to their reproduction, if there are less of them they make more babies. Damned if you do don't.
They're a real problem around here. In part that's why our turkey population has dropped, that and farmers going to liquid manure. Over the summer my neighbor saw one coming into our backyards. He has a small dog and was worried about her so we took care of that yote.
Just can't get enough of them.

Camp, can you tell me more about wolves in the ADK? What have you heard or seen?

They certainly used to be more prevalent than what they are now, but they're still around. The biggest difference between the ADK coyote and wolf is size. A big male timber wolf can reach as big as 120+lbs. Trappers in the ADK have gotten a few. Some will say the ones trapped are truly long range wanderers from the north. I believe that with the size and remoteness of parts of the ADK the wolf is coming back. Just like the fisher cat is here in CNY.

And maybe a mountain lion or two
My mom tells of a cat that reeked holy hell in bakers Mills. It was to the point where they weren't allowed to go to school until the hunted it down and killed it. It took them 3 days to find this cat and take care of it.

I don’t know where you’re from but I would bet you have coyotes too
Long Island. I THINK we don't have them. We have foxes. Western Nassau, about 18 miles to Penn.

Last I heard coyotes sometimes come into Manhattan but I have not HEARD of them coming into LI. One benefit of few forms of ingress/egress.

Curiosity from a flatlander where our largest mammal predator is a fox: it sounds like wolves have a positive ecological impact from your quote. Would be interested in hearing this.

Also, just don't know, but are their wolves in the 'Dacks? Sure seems like there are moose. I hear some weird sounds in Johnsburg that I have concluded is moose. My inlaws have said they have seen a moose staying up there, but there is a little bit of a translation/language gap as they are mostly speaking polish since they retired some years ago.
Also just realized, we have dolphins and whales, former certainly a mammalian predator, the latter is if you are a little shrimp (krill, no pun intended).
