West Mountain, NY - 2/9/22

Nice. That is a good deal.

OK dumb question: A.O.A. ... stands for?

Nice write up! West is sort of like our Bristol Mountain. I'm blow away that you can get a 2 hour pass and a breakfast/lunch for $30. If I could do that weekdays at Bristol I'd start my work day late and go once or twice a week.
So about 15 years ago I skied West bc it was (and still is) my home mountain and I remember that day being just like yesterday. Beautiful weather. Awesome groomers. No traffic. Midweek. Just pure fun and I watched from the lifts as people who were seemingly "living the dream" glided down the mountain with joy. I was two years into the job that I still have today and I was making a couple calls from my truck, fumbling with Blackberry email and muddling thru trying to manage my business remotely. It was so much fun breaking the mold.

But that day honestly changed my life. On a little hill off Exit 18 on the Northway. I discovered that one of my goals was to be able to bounce outta the house midweek, head up to a mountain and ski. For me. Nothing more, nothing less. An escape from the norm. Could I get there? I've worked extremely hard over the next 15 years. And now - at 46 - I can drop what I'm doing and hit it. It's been a long wait, a climb and I can't believe I've realized something that at the time seemed unattainable.

Sorry to wax poetic about what might sound like a small thing at a small mountain in upstate NY. But it means a lot to me. And I'm really glad to be sharing such a thing with some nice people. And it's really amazing to reconnect to my roots - something I didn't think would be such an emotional and meaningful journey.

When I used to work, not too long ago, I was always thankful for getting out to go skiing during the weekdays at out little bumps south of Cuse. Sometimes it was 1/2 day mornings, middays or afternoons. Always fun.
When I did it golfing too I had a performance appraisal that said I had an "attitude improvement".
I told her the root cause may be cause I’m out golfing 18 in the middle of the workday more.
She agreed.

My grandfather (who helped start ski patrol there) always told me it stood for "Ass Over Applecart" because it was always left natural, bumpy, etc. :)
Ah, that explains it. Skied A.O.A. today and since it's completely groomed out, it's just a wide "blue" at the moment.

West Mountain is cool. Thoroughly enjoyed it this morning. Indy Pass for the win!

West Mountain is cool. We probably should have a West Mountain Conditions thread going forward.
Here ya go.
