I don't know if I've traveled that root since I lived in New Rochelle some thirty something years ago... do they really not call it the tap anymore?

we sure do, me or my wife have traveled over it at least 5 days a week for the last 32 yrs... covid years were the exception..

My understanding is the term is a mashup of Dutch and native Lenape language even predating European settlement.

Zee means Lake in Dutch and Tapan were a local subgroup of the Lenape tribe.
