Today's Ride

Excellent!!!
What trails did you ride?
We rode Dead Horse Point state park. That's where that photo was taken. The trail runs around the canyon rim but safely well away from the edge. Also rode KlonZo. Dead horse was far more scenic but both are fun, flowy type trails.

We've only been riding a few years and we started late in life (mid/late 50s) so we're very careful and conservative riders and keep our wheels on the ground. Both trails were well within our comfort zone, walking only in a few areas.

We rented really nice Scott full suspension bikes from Rim Cyclery. About $130 - $150 each for two days rental. Great bikes and customer service so I highly recommend Rim Cyclery. They recommended where to ride based on our riding style and capabilities.

Also rented a bike rack but it wouldn't fit on our Ford Edge because of the stupid all plastic spoiler on the tailgate. Fortunately both bikes fit inside the Edge. So try and find a rental with a hitch or without an all plastic spoiler on the tailgate.

I can provide more info if you like.

Any plans for where you want to ride?

If it's available I recommend doing a shorter version of TWE. Starting from Loop Road on Kokpelli is awesome. Hazard and up will probably still be wet in April. The upper stuff should hopefully be buried in snow then, if it's not we are in for one heck of a fire season. Slick Rock is classic but really old school. It's one you can hit while having an extra hour and a half just to sort of check it off the list but I rode it once in 2000 and haven't been compelled to ride it again.

Ahab is great fun and if you want to make the ride longer I like to climb back up the road and add in a Jacksons for a figure 8 ride. Jacksons has a few extremely tricky spots but most of the descent is fine.

Moab is an incredible place but the crowds have kept me away for ten years now. Being a builder generally puts me in places with barely anyone around and brand new trail. Richfield and the whole 89A corridor over to the I-15 is the new "it" spot imho. That lumps together everything around Hurricane, St. George, East Zion, Brianhead, Cedar City etc. I think Kanab may soon be on that list as well but we shall see.

Great info AZ...I'm going 1st week of June..I'm really going to see Arches and Canyon land... Great idea to ride the short version of the Enchi.. I rode some stuff outside of Zion...so good

Last ride of 2022 was on a National Holiday, first ride of 23 was on a National Holiday weekend. Couldn't pedal too hard or make any sharp turns due to not wanting to fall. But no hill to deal with or traffic.
