Today's Hike

^^^
The pasta looks tasty. When I went to consult in Milan one time we stayed for 6 weeks & I gained ~10 pounds. Good tasty food is high priority.
Hike to day was at the touristy location called seceda. Still it was 3 miles with a 1000vt climb out. Between 7k &8k elevation
The coffee is from a Refugio along the hike
Lunch is from a different reufugio
Thanks everyone for looking at the posts

Looks like the livestock are still munching the mountain grass. They have a celebration when they round em up and bring em down before wintertime ❄️ sets in.

We got out and did about 8 miles in Harriman last week. For a while now, I have been meaning to start exploring the Suffern Bear Mountain Trail with an eye toward doing it end to end some time soon so we started with the Suffern end. The trailhead is right across the road from the commuter lot on 202.

Then you start climbing immediately

You can actually see the city skyline from up here

Then it turned into some typical NYS greenery hiking

You cross some power lines and some gas lines along the way.

You may have heard that there is lots of good bouldering and short pitch climbable rock scattered around Harriman and it’s true. Of course the rules say no climbing and no scrambling except in the approved Power Linez area so … you know, don’t do that. I may have have forgotten that rule once or twice on this trip…

So yeah, we just went in about four miles and then came back out. Good stuff

Did a quick solo trip to the NC mountains. Mainly to see another show at the Flat Rock Playhouse. Since the weather cooperated, got in a day of hiking in Dupont State Forest near Hendersonville. A Ski Diva I came to know when my daughter was at UNC Asheville showed me one of her favorite trails that her family usually bikes. Have skied with her at Cataloochee (Indy) and Wolf Creek (Dec trips).

Bonus stop on the way to Asheville at the McGalliard Falls Park, small town park near Valdese, Sept. 15, 2025

High Falls in Dupont Forest
Guys near the base of the falls hiked up from the Hooker parking lot, while I hiked down from the High Falls parking lot that is where the Visitor Center for Dupont Forest is located. Getting to the base of High Falls is a slight detour from the High Falls Loop. A full loop hike from Hooker is shorter by a mile and includes a view of Triple Falls. Easy hiking either way.
