We swam at Croton Point just across the river from there. Water looks murky. Is it due to the rigs putting in the new big electric cable from HydroQuebec to the Big Apple and/or is it usually murky? Twas murky when we swam it in the 60s. A friend had a kayak back then and we did that too. I think we launched near the tracks,

Looked up Hudson tides.
Didn’t know the tides run 150 miles to the dam in Troy.

A few years back we camped at Schodack Island SP on east bank of the river just south of Albany. We brought the kayaks and were amazed that the tidal waters went that far North, I had no idea. We had to plan our excursions so we didnt get mudded out at low tided on the Schodack Creek

A great paddle is from the train station in Croton on up the Croton River to a small island where you can take a nice swim. You can't really paddle any further north of there towards the dam, as the current and rockiness of the river bed will limit your ability to do so.

But when I lived in Westchester this was my favorite place to kayak.

Amazing homes perched up high on the cliffs overlooking the river, lots of birds and other wildlife to spot along the way.

Wife and I are supposed to get out on Copake Lake this afternoon, which would be good since it's embarrassingly been a couple of years since we've put the boats in the water.

First, though, a 30 (or so) mile ride...
