** Important Announcement**
By now, we assume you have all heard or have seen the forecast for the coming weekend starting Friday night 1/22 and continuing to Sunday 1/24. It is now expected to be 60+ hours in a row of negative temperatures. They also are predicting record breaking wind chill on Saturday morning with the summit reaching -40 degrees Fahrenheit, and then again Sunday morning with -30 degrees Fahrenheit. When we see temps get this cold, our team takes EVERYTHING into consideration. For example, we are sold out of Skibanas and Deluxe Skibanas. We are also sold out for tubing parties for both the day and night sessions. We have all of our slope side properties booked. It is shaping up to be another fun, busy weekend at the mountain.
More importantly, we take immense pride in being a family friendly ski resort. If you frequent the mountain, you notice that the majority of our skiers and riders are children and families. Because of this, no amount of revenue will justify being open and operating in these brutal temperatures.
It wouldn't be fair to our loyal patrons to open in order to not give refunds. Also, all of our amazing employees have families to consider, houses to keep warm, cars that might not start. Extreme temperatures like this put severe stress throughout the entire mountain and the community. Skiing is meant to be a fun, relaxing, stress free activity and we can't see any of that in temperatures this cold. It is dangerous. In below zero weather(-30 especially), time is compressed and risks multiply.
Closing is not an easy decision to make, as we know guests book reservations weeks to months in advance. However, we believe it is the correct decision. If you already have an itinerary booked for Saturday, or Sunday, someone from our team will be reaching out with different options to either change the date of your visit or receive a full refund. Please be patient as we have many reservations this weekend, and it will take time to reach out and make contact with every guest.
The weekend operating hours are as follows:
Friday: 10-4:30
Saturday: Closed
Sunday: Closed
Monday 10:00-4:30
Thank you for understanding. Stay warm. Stay safe. And we will see you back on the slopes soon.
Think snow,
